General Info
At the Chicago Canine Academy, we use leadership initiatives to train canines to be obedient, well-behaved members of the family. Often, animals act out through aggression, over-eating, or destructive actions because they feel limited by your home?s space or the distance and/or speed at which you walk them. With a well-trained dog, however, you can freely take your pet anywhere without a leash so that they?re freely able to move at their speed.
Training methods vary according to the breed, personality, and age of your pet. However, we never use aggression, begging, or bribery to achieve results. Rather, we address your dog?s weaknesses and recondition them.

I went to Jims academy and was impressed…
I went to Jims academy and was impressed with what I saw so I signed my dog up for the 2 week boot camp program. I have a giant schnauzer, he was 4 months old. Once a giant schnauzers ears are cropped, they have to be taped up until the puppies adult teeth grow in. When I dropped my puppy off, the first thing I told these people was if my dogs ear tape falls off to IMMEDIATELY call me. A week goes by and finally I get to go in and start training with my dog. Jim gets my dog out...my puppy looks miserable...is dirty as all hell..AND his ears are flopped over and not taped. I immediately got upset and said what the h***....I told Jim that I told his staff to immediately call me if the ears tape fell off and he responds with "Well they only fell off yesterday, and they smelled bad, and I really dont think its a good idea to have them taped like that all the time they need some air." Uhm no...I have an AKC registered breeder who knows what hes doing, last time I checked, Jim wasn't breeding giant schnauzers. I told Jim "No, his ears need to immediately be retaped and my that my breeder is in Yorkville." I am clearly upset because this idiot thinks that he knows what good for MY dog when he clearly doesnt. I tell one of the girls that works there that my dog is still AKC registered to my breeder and if I bring my dog to him like this looking like hes been not taken care of for a week that he'd be appalled and take my puppy away from me...well the girl goes to talk to him and idiot Jim clearly didn't notice me standing in the doorway when he said "Well I don't give a F*** if her dog gets taken away..." so he has the girl call a local vet who will tape the ears tomorrow morning. My dog looks miserable, looks like s***, and was NOT taken care of like I had TOLD them he needed to be. Did my dog learn a new trick? Yeah he did....but he was NOT under any circumstances taken care of by this pathetic excuse of a canine academy. If you love your dog...you're better off bringing him else where.

OUR DOGS DID NOT COME BACK THE SAME!!! Horrible mistake made by our own ignorance to sign up for training here. We saw ads online, and we thought it was the best choice to do bootcamp for our 2 dogs. The stupidest mistake I've ever made was falling for this scam. Jim Morgan and Chicago Canine Academy do not know what they are doing. Our dogs were not trained, they couldn't do anything new, they did not listen to anything we told them about our dogs problems. They were also both sick and very thin. They were so weak I had to take them to the vet the next day, and get 3 kinds of medication. The first person I told at the vets office that I just got them back from bootcamp, she warned me that many people had complained about them kicking dogs in training and hitting them in the face. My dogs their spirits were broken and they were not the same dogs we dropped off.

The methods used are not harsh, they are necessary. A balance of correction and praise is used to communicate with the dog. Before you pass judgement on Jim Morgan and his training techniques, do yourself and your dog a favor and stop in a watch a class. You might be surprised that it is not as some of these reviews would have you believe it is. Many happy well trained dogs come out of Chicago Canine Academy, dogs that otherwise would have been deemed beyond help by purely positive trainers. Think about this~ You would not raise a child without corrections/punishments, why would you raise a dog without this element? Positive methods are great for teaching but eventually corrections will be needed to assure good behavior. Your dog needs both elements to be successful.""

After going to many different dog trainers and classes, I was referred to Chicago Canine Academy. From continual practice and obedience classes here, my dog has done a complete 180. I never thought I could confidently walk around the park with a once vicious, aggressive pit bull. I even got another dog! I'm so proud of my animals and I know that they're thankful for the training that we've gotten at Chicago Canine Academy. Jim from Chicago Canine Academy is fantastic. My husband and I can't thank him enough. See we adopted a dog 2 months ago who's previous owners never did any type of obedience training. He was terrible at walks and would be difficult to control at home just very hyper and wouldnt listen at all. We took him to Jim for an evaluation to enroll him in obedience class and in 20 minutes Jim had him sit and stay AMAZING ! And this was done without any harsh corrections at all. Now we take him twice a week for training and he's doing amazing in are walks and at home. Jim not only trained are dog he trained us as well. Let me tell you this was and is the best money ever spent. It's awesome to find a trainer who knows about animal behavior and how much he loves his job we will always bring are dog and any other dogs we adopt in the future to Jim. Highly recommend Chicago Canine Academy !!

I believe Jim Morgan is one of the best dog trainers in the city of Chicago. I have trained six dogs with him; one mutt, two labs and three standard poodles. Some of my dogs met Jim when they were puppies, others when they were older. Some of my dogs have been smart, and others, well, not so smart. We love them all and so did Jim and his staff. I love CCA. When I started training my german shepherd pup, Charlie, all I really wanted was a dog that didn't drag me down the street. Now, a year later, Charlie is reliable, strong, well behaved and happy! Jim Morgan and his staff show you endless possibilities of things you can do with your dog. I have seen Jim rehabilitate ""vicious"" dogs and give them another chance in life. In fact, I now own one of them. Lewis, my 3 yr. old rott had been given up by his original owners because he was considered dangerous. Lewis is now the sweetest, friendliest dog I've ever seen, because of Jim and his love for dogs! Owning 2 large breed dogs is a responsibility I take very seriously and my dogs have a great life because of Jim Morgan. I can take them anywhere! Trust, safety (of the dog), control and just plain FUN is what Jim and CCA are all about!

""I was absolutely amazed as I watched what Jim was able to do with our dog. She has had fear aggression issues for which we have taken her to behaviorists, trainers, etc. People don't want to come to our house because they are afraid of our dog. In less than a half hour Jim had her seated on a pedastal calmly watching as people came in went out. I sat there in stunned disbelief. This wasn't my dog. The day before another trainer was scolding me and insisting that it was just a matter of time until we had to have the dog put down. I strongly recommend Jim. I know we have more work ahead of us, but Jim inspired confidence that we could do this. Our dog is such a big part of our lives it would crush us if we had to put her down. Jim convinced me that he has what it takes to help us help her, and I was so grateful I was close to tears as I left. if you have a dog that is difficult, untrained,doesn't listen well then this is the place for you weather it be for dog training purposes or grooming these wonderful people are awesome my dog snowball is a biter and has been kicked out of several grooming places in the past but that has all stopped when i found chicago canine academy the groomer ruth knows just how to handle my dog without a problem what so ever and the dog trainer really knows what he is doing when it comes to dog training i know alot of people don't understand what actually go's into dog training in general but when you have a dog who is agressive and lunges at people for no reason and is just a mess with manners you need a strong hand to bring that dog up properly and to allow that dog to understand his place in life!!! now my dog has never attended a class here but the only reason why is because i could not afford it, but i will say since going here for about 3 years for the grooming for my bichon listens alot better when i speak to him and ""yes"" now i do allow him off his leash even though i do know he has a checkered past of acting out and he stays right by me .................i really do love this place and i wish there were more training and grooming facilitys out there just like this one sooooooo please give them a try you really can't go wrong :)

They know what they're doing!!
Don't listen to the guy above! If he'd done a little training on his own no one would have to pull and yank his dog around! Jim KNOWS what he's doing and if your have a dog with behavioral then YOU mostlikely DON"T.
I took my dog which has dog aggression issues over there and Jim straighten out my dog problem within minutes. He had to get tough with my dog because i haven't been doing it at all...He showed me how to deal with my dog and i saw immiediate improvements! I rather have my dog going trough tough training than having dog with fears and aggression- biting other dogs and people.
I reccomend this place to anyone who wants his dog to be happy for life :) -

I took my dog in for a brief consultation with the owner/trainer Jim and I left The Chicago Canine Academy feeling traumatized and emotional. Jim took the lead from me and began his tortue session of verbal and physical abuse. Jim used such forceful "corrections" that I thought he would break my dogs neck. At one point Jim told me that if my dog belonged to him he would "Tie him up and beat the sh-- out of him." When we left my dog had bloody welts all over his neck. The following day my dog has scabs all over his neck from the torture Jim inflicted on my dog. This place should be shut down. Never for any reason bring your dogs here!
