One reason Unabridged is unique is that is has stayed in business after Amazon.com, Buy.com and all the other "bookstore.com"s all grabbed the business away from the independent book stores. In fact, not only has it stayed in business, it has thrived. Any time I'm in the neighborhood I have to stop by this shop. The staff does little mini-reviews of books that you find on yellow cards in front of the shelved book they're reviewing. These mini reviews have led me to books I loved and might never have found. And in response to the person who said she wouldn't take kids in, once you know the layout of the store, you'll know how to avoid anything you might find objectionable.
Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, but the selection at Myopic is staggeringly huge. I love it, you can lose yourself here for hours. Not for the claustrophobic, as it is pretty cramped and dimly lit in places, but it's loads of fun for bibliophiles. Prices are pretty average for used bookstores IMHO, but walking through here and finding books to buy is a lot more enjoyable than sitting at home and ordering off of a cold, impersonal computer screen.
I have been a customer of Shake Rattle and Read for over 20 years...and I cannot believe I am the first to give notice to this great book store. The owner is personable, he is aware of every book in the store..and he has 1000's upon 1000's to look through. The books are priced fair to market, in great condition and now and then he throws you a gem of a find...not only books but posters, music and dvd's. This place has it ALL!
