General Info
It is a great honor to serve as the Mayor of the City of Chewelah. Chewelah is a beautiful little village that lies in the shadows of Quartzite Mountain. It was incorporated over 100 years ago, but records show that Chewelah began in the 1880's. The name Chewelah means garter snake, probably a reference to the winding rivers and creeks throughout the City. These waterways only enhance the beauty of our city. Chewelah is full of trees and flowers, both natural and perfectly honed by a host of gardeners. The City boasts the most magnificent parks in Stevens County. It's proximity to mountains and lakes provides four distinct seasons to enjoy. Chewelah is a recreational mecca. The 27-hole golf course provides a challenging game to any golfer, novice or pro, as well as grand vistas and a sneek peak at natural wildlife. Just 10 miles east of downtown is 49-Degrees North Ski Resort. Its perfectly groomed runs provide at least a days worth of activity for skiiers and snowboarders. And after a hard day of excercise there's the Chewelah Casino, a great place to sit and relax. Chewelah also offers great trails for snowmobilers and ATV riders. There is ample game for hunters and the surrounding lakes are full of fat fish ready to fry. I'd like to invite you to visit our city. The citizens of Chewelah love to put on a show and you are invited! Come to Chewelah to see our resident actors and actresses in a production by the Park Avenue Players. In the summer Jenne Park hosts many events including concerts and festivals. It's also a great place to hold a family reunion or wedding. There is the James Dean Days in August, and the 3rd most popular event in the State of Washington - CHATAQUA in July. Chewelah also offers great places to stay, eat and shop. For a current calendar of events check out the Chamber of Commerce Website. Come to visit our great city and you may just decide to stay!!
