This Doc Rocks

Fortunately for me, I had the privledge of briefly working with "Dr. J" (Sonya Johnson, MD), when she was still an intern, and I was the 'DFC' (disgruntled filing clerk- that's a joke, ha ha). She's been my primary care physician for approximately 10 +/- year...mores and what I've ALWAYS appreciated about her, is that she truly cares and listens (a lost art, these days). She doesn't just write you an Rx in hopes that you and your symptoms will go away. She makes an assessment based on YOUR TOTAL BEING. In other words, when she devises a treatment plan for you, she takes into consideration, your work schedule, your family responsibilities (whether you have small children or an elderly parent, for instance), and even your financial means, etc. Because she's a 'family practice' doc, she has training in many aspects of medicine, but she's never too proud to send you to a specialist, if necessary. That lets me know two things: 1) she's not trying to make all the money herself vs. compromising your best healthcare 2) she's not trying to waste your time and/or money (I do plenty of that, all by my self -- thank you). As odd as it may sound, it's very important to me, that she's still young. Old people scare me, especially those who have medical equipment that date back to Noah and his ark and their offices smell like the animals that were on it!!! Something that would be a plus to know, is that she, along with her partner, Dr. Ingram, and thier staff, run a very organized and efficient office. Although Drs. Ingram & J are the docs, it's never beneath them, to answer a phone or do a "finger stick", should their staff be too busy (and no, that doesn't mean they're understaffed --it means they multi-task, well). The entire staff is truly kind (because Drs, Ingram & J don't tolerate rudeness, regardless of the situation). And they keep noone, I mean absolutely NOONE waiting, longer than they have to... for any reason. I've literally, never had a visit that lasted over an hour, from sign-in, to check-out. (Well, there was that one time I was there a whole hour and 3.283596 minutes -- I'm going to write the "BONBTDTC Board" [Board Of Nothing Better To Do Than Complain], about that!) One last thing though, don't be overly concerned with Dr. J's blank, unconcerned stares -- she's just concentrating. At least... that's what I told my husband... whose legally blind... and couldn't see her, anyway... even if he had a life-sized magnifying glass. P.S. Please forgive me for making this review a little long -- I have a bad case of the "runs" ...run-on sentences, that is! view less

Skin Cancer & Cosmetic Dermatology CenterLarry H. rated

I've read all of the negative reviews for this practice and just wanted to add my 2 cents worth in since opinions are like body parts, everyone has them. I was diagnosed with CLL cancer in 2010 and my Oncologist suggested that since some cancers as far as how it relates to t...morehe body sort of bring on other cancers, I should seek out a Dermatologist and have a full body scan annually. There was a large practice, which I will not name, that was located in Memorial North Park Medical Center and I started seeing a couple of their of their Nurse Practitioners. I went each year since and each time was pronounced for the most part clean with no Carcinomas for about four years. Since I had been passed to a female N.P. for the past couple of years I felt a little uncomfortable with her doing the full body scan, I guess I'm sort of a prude in that department so I was seeking out another practice where I could actually see a real live doctor instead of a N.P.. That is when I found the perfect fit for me with Dr. Mark Tusa at the Chattanooga Skin & Cancer Clinic, he hasn't been onboard with C.S.C.C. but for a couple of years and I was so lucky that I was able to get him to accept me as a new patient. Well to say the least he has helped extend my life by years - the first time I walked in and he did his scan he requested 4 biopsies from his nurse and of the four three turned out to be Squamose Cell Carcinomas (pretty serious) and it was apparent to me that these didn't develop just in the past year since my last scan at the other Dermatologist practice. Since those first three just 3 months ago he has also removed several more. He attended and graduated with honors from Chicago College Of Medicine And Surgery in 2004, and I promise he's unlike any other doctor you will ever meet - with his concern for his patients he goes out of his way to call you day, night or weekends to personally give you the results of your biopsies as well as tell you that if you need to talk with him after hours about a problem that may possibly develop from the surgery just call his answering service and he will respond (although with his and his surgical nurses detail to attention I've never had any issues from any of his surgeries). I'm reluctant to spread the word on how good he is since at some point I can see him being overwhelmed with requests from new patients but he deserves the praise and he is a great asset for Chattanooga Skin & Cancer Clinic and will be for years to come!!!view less

Miracle

Dr. Bruce is one of the most caring doctors I have met in a while. I came with my son from Canada looking for answers to a leg discrepancy and deformation problem. I went to shriners and even though they were caring we were getting no where. Then CCS sent me to one of Dr. B...moreruce's clinics. I explained to him the problem and roadblocks we were getting and that I have gone to about 6 hospitals looking for an answer. Well not only did he take our case he went out of his way to put a team of doctors in different fields together to start testing. When he got back a report of the possibility of a rare genetic disorder he sent us to one of the best orthopedic surgeons in the country who practiced at the Children's Hospital in Cincinatti Ohio. From there we seen the orthopedic dr. as well as a dermatologist who right away diagnosed my son. My son was aroun 2yrs old and thanks to dr bruce who didn't have to go to all that trouble we got a diagnosis and I am happy to say even though it is a rare condition it is not fatal. Dr. Bruce was sent to us to be that guardian angel for my son and I will always be greatful and we still see him every year. Stephanie B.view less
