I live in Hixson, which in Chattanooga is as far from East Ridge as one can get and still be within Chattanooga city limits. When my vehicle broke down and I needed transportation to do my grocery shopping, pick up meds at the pharmacy, etc., I phoned a taxi service. Simple, right? Wrong. It was anything but simple. Before it was over, I had phoned every taxi service in Chattanooga, and every taxi service refused to come to Hixson and answer my request for taxi service--every taxi service but one. Since the downtown-based services refused to serve Hixson, when East Ridge Cab's name came up, seeing that they were twice as far away as the downtown companies, I assumed that the story would be the same for East Ridge Cab. East Ridge Cab was the only one I did not phone. Frustrated, I looked up the city ordinances that regulated taxi services and discovered that Chattanooga taxi services are forbidden to refuse ANY request for taxi service from ANYONE in the city. That includes communities that are annexed into the city of Chattanooga, such as Hixson. When I read that ordinance, I contacted the City Council representative for my District, who in turn contacted the City Attorney, who then contacted me and the Taxi Inspector, who contacted me with a solution to the problem. He recommended the only taxi service that I had NOT contacted -- East Ridge Cab. The Taxi Inspector told me on the phone that East Ridge Cab's General Manager, Mark McAllister, when he heard about my problem, volunteered his services, and even gave the Inspector his private number with an invitation to call him whenever I needed taxi service. Not only did Mark volunteer his services, he took the time to phone me to assure me that any time I needed transportation, all I had to do was call East Ridge Cab Co., and he or one of his drivers would be happy to help. As it happened, I would need transportation the next morning, so he made a reservation to pick me up. When East Ridge Cab's vehicle picked me up the next morning, it was Mark McAllister, the General Manager. The vehicle was very clean, Mark was very friendly and genuine, and the rates were fair and very reasonable--especially considering that he had driven all the way from East Ridge to Hixson. I should point out, too, that the only fare that I was charged was the meter fee and mileage. He did not jack up the fee to compensate for the long drive from East Ridge to Hixson and back. East Ridge Cab takes debit card, credit card, or cash as payment options. As I was paying for his service, Mark asked me if I was a Veteran and gave me a Veteran's discount. Out of more than a dozen taxi services in the city of Chattanooga, East Ridge Cab Co. was the ONLY one who did not refuse to provide taxi service when I needed it. From my experience, East Ridge Cab Co. is head and shoulders above the rest, hands down, and its manager, Mark McAllister, is an honest and honorable man. I recommend East Ridge Cab Co. to anyone in Chattanooga who needs taxi service. East Ridge Cab Co. also has a Web site that is informative and helpful. My family and I became stranded, thanks to another cab company at the Greyhound station in Chattanooga and I was going to be over 4 hours until Greyhound opened. With children, and due to the feeling this was an unsafe situation to be in, we called Mercury cab, which sent JD to pick us up. JD was not only courteous, friendly, and every bit the southern gentleman. He helped load our bags, was extremely nice to my children, and upon hearing of our situation, JD and another driver Mike, also one of the nicest I have met, especially in the Cleveland area, offered to drive us to our home. I promptly paid the fare, which was reasonable, and we were driven in comfort. I can not encourage you enough to use Mercury cabs, they are the best in that area.
I used the taxi service from Trenton GA to Chattanooga Airport. Their driver (James) called me one hour in advance to reconfirm my reservation. James promptly picked me up as scheduled at 7:00 a.m. James was courteous and professional. During the drive James pointed out historical items of interest and other facts about Chattanooga. While I can't speak for anyone other than James (and Darlene - the person booking my reservation) I was thoroughly satisfied with All American. The van was clean both inside and out. When I return to GA again this summer, I will call All American.
