I have an antique barometer dated to the mid 1700's. It is still in working condition mechanically, but the outside design was in shambles. I wasn't sure where to take this piece, as most other places had no idea how to go about with restoration. One of my acquaintances in Memphis told me about Alan Shuptrine - who owns Shuptrine's Gold Leaf Designs in Chattanooga, TN. He had an antique portrait frame of a Civil War solider restored by Alan a few years ago, and after the restoration, he was able to sell his piece to a museum. I decided off of the recommendation of Alan, to take my barometer to him and see what he said. Right out of the gate, he was able to identify the year and maker of the barometer. He was also able to see all of the fractures that were in the original structure, and explain how he was going to repair the missing ornamentation on the designs. He was also very concerned about maintaining the original integrity of the piece and wanted to save as much of the existing original gold leaf as possible. After 3 weeks of meticulous work, I was able to see my fully restored barometer. You couldn't tell which areas were repaired, all of the fractures were filled and stabilized, and the original antique gold finish blended so well with the newly gilded areas - I was completely blown away. Alan Shuptrine and staff are extremely professional, and highly trained in the art of restoration and antique integrity. The barometer is now the show piece of my home, and I will never take a restoration anywhere else but Shuptrine's.

I recently had some art work and frames that needed to be restored due to water damage. I had heard about Shuptrine's from some friends and thought I would give them a try. It was a painless experience dealing with the owner Alan Shuptrine and the Gallery Manager Stephanie Valencia. They took their time and explained to me the process that would be used. I was made aware of the damage I could not see and they told me up cost what the charges would be. I was nervous having never seen any of their work before but I was called told my work was ready to pick up and it was beautiful. They paid attention to the details and everyone there was professional and friendly. I have no problem recommending this company to any one who is looking to have restoration or repairs done. Stephanie took the time to show me around the gallery and they have some excellent paintings and artists on exhibit. They will be my return shop for restoration. Thank you Shuptrine's for the beautiful work and anytime I need artwork or framing repaired or restored I do know where I am going. You guys did beautiful work - I can not say how pleased I am.
