The minute that you walk in the door at Ru-San's, the staff's loud yelling and the fast techno beats make you feel kind of like a rock star. Although the restaurant's decor might not be as fancy as some places, the food here is hard to beat. The sushi list is three pages front-and-back, and there are always creative seasonal specials. For the Summer 2008 menu, the "Exotic Maki" with the tempura shrimp and mango salsa is one that you can't miss. Most of the other rolls are pretty spectacular too, including the Firecracker Roll with two kinds of tuna rolled in a crispy rice cracker crust served with some ultra-hot mayonnaise sauce and the Beetlejuice Roll, which is some kind of strange tempura tomato concoction with creamy shrimp salad. The wonderful thing about Ru-San's is that there are so many different things on the menu to discover. To make it easy for you, I'll go ahead and say that some of the best-kept secrets on their menu are the yakitori sea-bass and the zaru-soba noodles. And the mochi ice cream. And the ama-ebi nigiri pieces. Actually, this list might never end. But there's a start for you.
k.o. sushi has a great uptown location based on third and tryon in the 230 building. they offer a quick alternative to the hassle of dine-in sushi restaurants, via take-out or delivery. the quality is magnificent compared to other charlotte sushi bars, factoring in the idea of convenience, affordability, with no strings attached or waits in line. the service is all that could be asked for, as the employees are always cheerful and willing to make small chat while you wait for your meal.ona scale of one to ten i'd give k.o. sushi a ten based on the warm, comfortable vibe felt when i go there for lunch or when im just stopping by on my way to the parking decks on the way home from work. k.o. sushi is a blessing for my fellow colleagues visiting from other cities, while staying in many of the hotels in charlotte uptown. they deliver on time, with no hassle fancy protocol, or annoying delivery guys. the mood all around is mellow. while the service is remarkable. check them out on www.kosushi2go.com. you'll be impressed. without having to pay the standard sushi-crack prices.
I bought a Groupon for Edomae which stated "dine in or carry out." Groupon sent out an email later that said that "carry out" was a mistake but, since I already purchased the Groupon, I was still allowed to get carry out. When I went in to order I showed the manager the email from Groupon & he said it was still wrong because it was Groupon's fault and not theirs. In order to satisfy a customer (and potential returning customer) I feel that he should have taken it as the email said. Also, the only thing they would have missed out on was the tip for the waitress/waiter. Food price would not have changed, would have left a tip for the chef AND we had already told them we were going to have drinks from the bar while we waited. They were difficult and the place was completely empty anyways. Since I was unhappy with the service we left without any food so I have no idea how good the quality was (We went to get Sushi from our other local spot with great customer service and quality anyways).
