Three years ago I started plans to totally renovate my 1799 historic carriage house. The carriage house was a 650 square foot apartment above a three bay garage. I started the process by first working with an architect and getting design drawings. The architect then gave me four builders that he recommended for my project. All four of the builders were given the same drawing and information to bid on my project so we would have comparable pricing. One of the builders declined the job because of it being a historic home. The other three builders came to our home for a walk through and then sent us a quote for the work. Of the three quotes two were close in price but one was almost double the cost of the other two. Of the two builders that were close in price, one said it would take six to seven months to complete the job and the other, Vasseur Home Design, said it would take three to three and a half months for completion. I know it’s not a good idea to choose a builder based solely on price and completion time so I did some checking and found that Vasseur Home Design did high quality work and renovated many historic homes. We chose Vasseur Home Design for our renovation and our home was completed on time and most importantly on budget. Even though our home is still considered small (1450 sq/ft) in comparison to other Charlotte homes, it is full of character. We have been so please with the quality of work and also dealing with all the nice honest people at Vasseur Home Design. One year after our home renovation was completed I started plans for a long awaited workshop and as you would expect I contacted Vasseur Home Design for help. Vasseur Home Design built me a 1400 sq/ft workshop that is barn style with a loft and I could not be happier with the job they did…. Lucky me!!! My family and I could not be more satisfied with them and if you’re planning a renovation or new construction, I would highly recommend that you call Vasseur Home Design.
As always a few things will come up that you want to add onto your home after you've settled on a price. I thought CWD Construction was very reasonable with the cost of the few things that we did add onwhich is nice. I mean, a builder could gouge you there if they wanted to but CWD Construction was very reasonable
