Please disregard any negative racial comments made in the other reviews . They are crazy . The family is so kind , and accommodating . I have been in there with black people , white people , Asian people , lol , and always polite . Everyone has a bad day . What is most important is how amazing the food is . I have been to Chinatown in DC , and NYC , and this restaurant is the only place that compares . It is not over priced , and pretentious like PF Changs , and in my opinion the food is better ! I always get the sweet , and sour chicken . It has pineapples , and cherries the way it should to be considered authentic . The owners are amazing people . I had a tonsillectomy two years ago ,and could not get out of bed . They prepared every soup on there menu , and had it ready for a friend of mine to pick up for me . On the house ! That is how loyal they are to there customers . You will also find they have the best wine collection in town ...

Okay, I was invited out by a group of people to this restaurant. They raved about it and was very thrilled to go there for the price and food. While a few of us were waiting at the front for others, there was an African American man waiting for his take out. The owner was pretty rude to him saying ""Are you going to pay? I don't have time."" The nice gentleman was just asking him a question about his food. I thought ""wow"", he did not have to be rude to that man. Also, I had a shrimp dish...the shrimp was not fresh. I will never go there again. For those who would like ""fantastic"" Chinese food close by to this restaurant, they should try Baoding at Sharon Corners behind Harpers! I love that place!

I usually never write an bad comment on a restaurant but this had to be said. I use to be a repeat customer. I ordered take out from Shanghi at least once every two weeks. It is right around the corner from my house and the food was decent. I ordered there for months after moving into the neighborhood and either my boyfriend or I would go to pick up the food but never went in at the same time. So a few weeks ago my boyfriend and I finally had time to go in and dine in the restaurant as soon as we came in the door I could tell there was something wrong by the way the staff stared at us but did not come to sit us. We waited about 5 min to be seated and they reluctantly sat us to dine. We waited 15 min before the server came to speak to us when she only had two other tables that already had their food. We waved to us twice and she purposely ignored us both times. We knew why we were getting this treatment it was all over the servers face when she came to our table. My boyfriend is Korean and I am black. She would not look at or address me in any way during our visit. We asked for our check twice she ignored us both times. After waiting for the check for 20 min while the server cleaned the tables we finally walked up to he front and told the host what we had so he could ring us up. We were both really disturbed. Thinking it was only the server that had this disposition we spoke to the owner/ host. My boyfriend asked him ?in a calm and collected manner if we had done something to offend the waitress because she was refusing to serve us?. The owner replied ? She doesn?t work on your clock. And if we don?t like it we should not come here anymore.? I told my boyfriend this type of ignorance is not worth getting upset about and we left. I will never step in that restaurant again. I don?t understand people like that and I will not give them business either.

I give Shanghai 4 stars because I'm a tough grader.
This is the best Chinese restaurant I've been to in Charlotte. We must not be the only household in the area who relies on it as favorite for take-out, because it's never packed and has outlived other restaurants who have tried to rent the space next door over the past ten years (currently a Wolfman Pizza). When we do dine-in, the service is attentive and friendly.
Everything I've had on the menu is superb. Personal favorites include Crab Rangoon & Fresh Spring Rolls for appetizers and Sesame Duo, Mongolian Beef & Sauteed Spicy Eggplant for main dishes.
I went to college in New York City and the authentic Chinese dining experience there has revealed to me how much the cuisine has been ""Americanized"" to suit our taste. Shanghai is Americanized, but the menu has more than a few dishes that separate it from the every-day take-out competition. The slightly higher prices are worth this distinction alone.
I consider myself fortunate to have it as a dine-in or take-out option in my neighborhood.

I was always told when it comes to grading an Chinese Restaurants they should have good egg roles, if they can't do that right- then the rest of the food doesn't matter... and Shanghai has excellent egg roles! I don't think I have ever had a bad meal here. The Sweet and sour Chicken is great!!! Everything always comes out fresh and piping hot! Highly recommended!

Superb customer service, the owners are super nice and will make anything you want the way you like it. If you dont see what you like on the menu, tell them what sauces you like and what your favorite veggies are, and they'll suggest or create something for you! They even have fake meats for those wanting a texture other than tofu. Mongolian Wraps HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, whether veggie style or with the beef.....simply the best!
