Modern Salon & Spa offers a wide range of body treatments, such as rosemary mint awakening body wrap, aroma and herbal body wrap, aqua body polish, salt glow, back treatment, coffee scrub and Caribbean body treatment. It also offers various packages, including modern day woman, day of indulgence, detoxification, destresser and wedding packages. Teresa at Modern Salon is the best!

It isn't a whole salon but the specific stylist you go to that deserves a review. And after going to her for years and year, I can't say enough good about Teresa, who works at the Birkdale location and, on Thursdays, at Metro. She is superb, makes sure she is working with you to achieve what you want, and is truly concerned if there is something wrong, working until she has made it right. I know that raving about her will make it harder than it already is to get an appointment with her, but Teresa deserves it!

Great Clips spent more time on me

I recently paid modern salon and spa a visit for the first time (phillips place location). My stylist kept cutting me off when i tried to tell him what i wanted. He did not even do what i asked for. Honestly, I've had less done to my hair at great clips before and they spent more time with me. I felt like my stylist was in a huge rush and just wanted to get done with me. For the amount of money spent on the cut, i feel like they should have listened and spent more time with me. Hurry in and hurry out. Too bad that was my first time there. I will not return.

LOVE LOVE LOVE modern. I have been going here for years. Everyone does a great job and it feels like home for a couple hours. Everyone there is very friendly and helpful. The stylists are very knowledgeable and extremely talented. I have never had a bad haircut here. it is a little pricey...but it is worth EVERY dollar. Over the years I have lived in a couple different parts of the carolinas and I still only go to modern at phillips place. I make a trip to see my family every month and during that stay I make sure to visit modern and get a hair cut and wax. If you need a waxing I would suggest Sima. They did start doing cash tip only awhile ago, and I just remember to bring cash in with me whenever I go...no big deal :) five stars.

I went here for a brow wax. The spa area is quiet and relaxing, and i was happy with the service until i tried to check out. They won't allow you to put a tip on your credit/debit card. Since i didn't have any cash, the esthetician didn't get tipped. Get with the times, Modern. Debit cards are here to stay. I won't go back until they change their ""policy"".

Not worth the money

I have gotten good cuts and color at Modern, not the best in town, but good enough. I stopped going because the price is outrageous. (And, in an unnecessary annoyance, the tip cannot be added to the credit card.) Went back one last time. Though when I called I said I wanted someone less expensive, I was scheduled with a ""senior"" stylist. The end result is acceptable, but anyone so slow and methodical doesn't strike me as senior. Even burned me with the dryer repeatedly. 20 minutes late, slow as molasses and over $200 before the tip.

My once healthy, sandy, blond hair has been replaced with distressed locks with a horrid, orange tint. I went to modern at hearst tower for what I thought would be a routine color and cut and was in for 3 hours of terrible service and even more horrific results. Clearly something went awry from the very beginning, but the staff's inexperience became incredibly obvious as they swarmed around me and kept trying to ""fix"" the issue until my scalp had blistered. Yes, as in a chemical burn. I complained that I did not like the color, and that I was fairly certain something like this should not burn my scalp. The stylist had the audacity to tell me that I needed to wait for her to dry it. We dried it. STILL TERRIBLE. So, she told me that I needed to wash it myself a couple of times. Well, I've done that and I am still miserable. I cannot believe they allowed me to leave the salon looking like Carrot Top, but they did and gladly charged me full price. Too bad my hair was such a mess that I was unable to even get it cut because we ran out of time. I will avoid this place like the plauge and have told all of my friends to cancel their appointments. I will gladly take my business elsewhere. In the meantime, I recommend the Hearst Tower team attend some coloring workshops.

My color was a job my kids could of done at home, this salon is overpriced and a complete let down. My highlights WERE AWFUL. I WENT TO ANOTHER SALON and I am HAPPY TO SAY PERFECT. \r This salon should close down it is over rated.

Just moved to town and have been planning my wedding! My nerves and my sanity have been tested to the extreme to say the least! Anyway, i felt i needed to write to tell you about my awesome find. I was directed to Modern by just about everyone i talked to for my hair-- when i was there i met the makeup artist Logan S. just by chance! Wow she is adorable, nice, and extremly talented! She did a consultation on the spot for me and is now doing my makeup for my wedding as well as the wedding party! I feel completly taken care of in the makeup dept. for my wedding day-- knowing i have the best makeup artist definatly in charlotte if not anywhere! Book a consultation or just go by and meet her-- and thank me later!

Great haircut, highly recommend

I was so happy with my haircut at the Philips Place location that I had to write. I got a better cut than I asked for (a short bob ~3 inches off my current length) and felt that Porcha really listened and had great insights. She was personable and awesome--I can't wait to go back. It was also very reasonably priced compared to other salons where I've had cuts. I really can't say enough nice things about Porcha. The salon was nice and clean and the front desk staff was polite. There are lots of products but no pressure to buy.

Avoid color! Cut OK

My appointment took place at the Hearst Tower location. My cut was excellent and my color looked great for the first day. However, something terrible happened and I have no idea how a ""head stylist"" could turn my dark blond hair into a brassy orange. She told me she was going to give me a wonderful thing called a ""color wash"" that would provide me with all over color on top of my highlights and give me more time between visits. This process turned my roots to a brassy color I can only compare to a darker shade of dial soap. When I called to give them the benefit of the doubt and see if they could fix my hair, the receptionist could not accomodate my work schedule and was not apologetic or helpful. This cut and color cost a great deal of money and I remain very disappointed.

Everyone there is so kind they really bent over backwards for me and believe me I am picky. I want to thank Sunny and all the girls up front for such a wonderful experience. I absolutely love this place. I started going to Modern because I was looking for a salon that offers Aveda Hair color and products. My hair is naturally brown, but I have been a blonde for years. The hair color they use is gentle and doesn't break my hair off. (I used to go to a place that smelled like chemicals and I would always have some ""breakage"" after my service). A friend told me about the Aveda blonde system (I think it is bleach, but you can't smell a ""bleach-y"" smell and it doesn't break my hair). My hair has been healthy and shiny ever since. I also love the Damage Remedy shampoo and the Aveda make-up. Lastly - the threading service is awesome. So much better than wax.

I have never been to a place such as this. I always thought modern was a very high end salon because they seem to charge out the hole but I was shown differently. I walked in and I was going in to get my hair highlighted and cut. The stylist took me back 30 min late and told me that she could only do the highlights because she didn't have time to do the rest and that she would comp me next time. I told her that I wanted very natural looking highlights and I sure as hell didn't get that. I looked in the mirror and I had chunky brassy blonde highlights when we talked about just doing a medium carmel and then I had marks all over my head and looked like a tiger. She didn't listen to me and what I was saying, she was completley rude, and she had cigarrette smoke all over her. She also had an assistant that she bossed around and was completley rude to. I got up to pay and it was $50 more than what she had told me and I still didn't get a haircut that I was down for and left leaving unhappy and unsatisfied. I told the receptionist I was unhappy and she just acted like it was no big deal and that I could just have a redo and not pay for it if I wanted to. But over my dead body will I get my hair done again at Phillips Place and I heard Hearst Tower is even worse!! I didn't think that it was to hard to put natural highlights in when you are going to a ""senior director"" the highest ranked stylist. Its pretty sad and embarrasing to think that I get scamed at whats supposed to be the best salon in Charlotte, obvisouly there are better!!

Horrible Japanese straightening

I came to Modern Salon for Japanese straightening. After the first consultation, I went on with the process. My hair never came out straight, as Japanese straightening should. I came back for a re-do and still didn?t make a difference. I?ve had this process done somewhere else for a fifth time now and I?ve never had this experience. My experience with the stylist and store's manager has been frustrating and per their policy, am not getting my money back nor my hair fixed. I don?t recommend this salon for Japanese straightening.

Stylist forced me to pay for a service I did not recieve!

I had high expectations for this salon, as it was recommended by a friend who got her hair cut here - but I only went in for a partial highlight. I spoke with the stylist about what I wanted done, and when I asked her what areas she covered in her partial she said she would put them wherever highlights were needed. The coloring job was fair, but when I went to check out, they charged me for a full highlight. I explained that I made an appointment for only a partial and discussed that with the stylist. I explained that I did not recieve a full highlight service, and that it was never discussed.. When the receptionist followed up with the stylist, the stylist said she felt that she put in more highlights than she usually would for a partial. I was forced to pay twice as much for a service that I did not recieve!! That was my first visit - and LAST vist to Modern Salon. They lost my business - I am willing to pay high prices for good service, but I will not return to a place that scams customers into paying for something they did not recieve!

I drive 2 hours to go to Modern Salon and Spa! I can always count on attentive customer service and leave with a wonderful hair cut and color. I visit reguarly and make a day of it and visit the spa too. I highly recommend Modern Salon and Spa!

I have always been blonde, but I have struggled to find a stylist that can highlight my hair without making it look ""brassy"" or darker. I am so excited to find a stylist that makes my hair look natural! Go Modern! (I won't post her name b/c I don't want her to get over-booked, how selfish!)

Perfect Day at the Spa!!

My husband got Valentine's Day right on the money this year!! He bought me a Day of Indulgence at Modern and I just went to receive the services. I spent an entire 5 hours at the Phillips Place one and have not felt so pampered or relaxed in months!! We recently moved from NY and I was very apprehensive about finding a spa that even compared. I had a massage, facial, manicure, pedicure, and they even let me upgrade my blowdry to a haircut without it being a problem. They catered to my every need and I got a catered lunch. It was a great experience and I look forward to returning for my weekly manicures and for getting gift certificates for every holiday!

Just the cut I've been looking for!

I have been trying forever to get a certain haircut and have never had anyone listen well enough to do what I want. That all changed with my first experience at Modern Salon and Spa. I explained exactly the same way what I wanted, but this time I got it! Van cut my hair several times and I felt like a model after each cut. She did exactly what I wanted. A few times when I have not been able to get in with Van, I have seen other stylists, some of them junior stylists but every person has done exactly what I asked and left me feeling and looking amazing. I would recommend Modern Salon to anyone wanting a new look with their hair or just wanting to be listened to!
