We have been customers of Andy Lewis for the past 5 years, calling on them for various HVAC issues on 21 occasions totaling well over $5,000.00 in service costs. This is indicative of loyal customers who for the most part were satisfied during the first 3-4 years of the relationship.
Beginning with last years' service engagements we began to notice deterioration in the quality (attitude) of service. While the types of problems were varied in nature we had several service calls related to a small leak in the refrigerant (FREON) system. While we were certainly aware of the leak, and the ever increasing cost of Freon charges by Andy Lewis Company, we chose to continue to replenish the Freon, when necessary, and continue to operate the current system for as long as reasonably possible in order to extend the life of the A/C and postpone the $7k - $8k expenditure to replace the unit for as long as possible.
This approach seemed to be in direct conflict with the desires of Andy Lewis Company. Their service technicians began to project an attitude of annoyance at best and rude and threatening to stop our service (as in the case of the most recent encounter) at worse. So much so that during the last service call their technician stated that they would no longer service our A/C units as we had "exceeded our limit for Freon".
Up to this point we had never been made of aware of any limit on consumer Freon or otherwise.
We were (and continue to be) astounded that a service company would intentionally forego hundreds of dollars in revenue... for EACH service call... in an attempt to move us to spend thousands of dollars in replacement costs.
It is our belief that it was this desire to move us to a replacement decision that prompted this technician to placate us by charging for 3lbs of Freon but never actually placing the Freon in the unit. Our contention is based on the fact the most recent Freon replenishment also required 31bs and that lasted for four months. This was in line with every one of our past experiences regarding leak issues. Now however, this supposed 3lbs of Freon only lasted about a day. Yet there was no evidence provided by the technician of an expansion in the leak or any other issue that would accelerate the loss of 3lbs of Freon from 4 months down to 1 day. Further, no evidence, other than their protest of our request for a refund, has ever been provided by the company to prove that the technician ever placed the Freon in the unit. No before or after meter readings, no before / after tank weights, etc…just their contention that they did put in the Freon. This contention comes in the face of a very strongly worded (written and verbal) admonishment concerning adding any additional Freon. We believe this company's action was in direct line with their desire to move us to a replacement decision.

Once we found ourselves in the situation of having another Freon issue only a day after having just paid a $398.00 charge for 3lbs of Freon from Andy Lewis and faced with a stern warning from Andy Lewis to not call them again for service we decided to look for another service company and also look at getting an estimate for replacing the unit.
The new service company responded to our call and examined our system finding the system, again, 3lbs low on Freon. They replenished the Freon and scheduled a replacement of the unit to occur one week later. Not only did their 3lbs of Freon last beyond 1 day, it was still providing cooling for the house right up to the point it was replaced with the new unit. These facts could lead us to only one logical conclusion...3lbs of Freon was never placed in the unit by Andy Lewis on August 18, 2014.

Honesty gone...integrity missing...

Not really sure what has happened to this company over the past couple of years but it quickly becomes very clear when engaging with them now that they are highly committed to being a proprietarily focused RATHER than a customer focused business.

They require you to sign various forms holding them harmless from any number of potential possibilities relating to their service. When I questioned why they said "its for our protection". I asked "protection from whom?" they replied "I guess from you". When I said "But I'm your customer why would you need protection from me? I called you! I asked you to come and add freon to my unit. You said you added the freon and you certainly gave me the bill which I immediately paid in full, so protection from what"? Their representative's response was "well they just make us have you sign these waivers."

I think the deal is they really don't want to do repairs anymore unless they result in purchases of new units. Some of their service representatives really push replacements. They are rude and condescending and very expensive...3 lbs of freon...$400.00...for a 35 minute job.
When I expressed to this representative that my next service call to their company would have been to have them replace both units but now after this experience, and others of late, I would NEVER call them to do that job or any other. His response was "well I'm sorry you feel that way but that's the way we do business now."
That's their response to a loyal 7 year customer who has spent thousands of dollars over that seven years in service calls.

I guess they have more customers than they need/want.

There are too many other honest customer caring HVAC companies who truly want and appreciate your business.

Call these guys AT YOUR OWN RISK...if you don't buy a new unit be very leary of what they say they did for you. Don't just trust them to tell you the truth. Make them prove it, otherwise you're more likely to be taken.

Better someone you know you can trust.
