I've been going to Mel for several years now for my hair. I change my hair pretty drastically and very often and I've now gotten to the point with Mel where I'll give her a general idea of what I'm looking for (leave it long or cut it off) and let her do the rest. She's great at anticipating what I may or may not like, remembering the colors that worked well on me and can do wonders with my very tricky hair. My hair is fine, but I have a ton of it and it's straight but has a random wave at my neck that very few stylists haven't managed to completely screw up. I love my hair every time I leave there and get a lot of compliments on it. She's even somehow managed to keep my hair in great shape regardless of how many drastic changes I decide to make with the color! I happily recommend Mel to friends and have never heard anyone disappointed with her service. I even got my boyfriend to go to her and she did a great job on his hair as well! Since Kieu has come on board I decided to try getting a manicure with her. I have previously gone to another local salon for their shellack treatment, but wanted to give Kieu and the Gellish treatment a try. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO SHELLACK! Gone are the days of sitting at the bar at the nail place drinking wine through a straw because my hands had to sit under the UV lamps for another 10 minutes before they were dry. I always get a french manicure and I got really sick of the shellack either chipping or cracking and I haven't experienced that with the Gellish at all. My nails have gone 3 weeks looking perfect with the exception of the growth. Kieu takes her time and does a wonderful job with the manicure. The environment in the salon is homey and relaxing. They offer water, coffee, wine, beer and a great selection of magazines to browse through. So far, I've loved the products that Mel has used on me. The shampoo chairs are so much more comfortable than ones I've been in previously and Mel's scalp massages are to die for! Overall its a great location and I can't wait to see what other services they will have to offer!

I live half an hour away from this salon, without traffic. If I could find a closer salon that came even close to its quality, I would go there instead. No other hair salon has been able to take my home chemist personality and difficult, wavy, thin hair and do anything useful with it. Colouring: My stylist calls me the home chemist. One time, I went a little crazy and bleached my locks too soon after dyeing it BACK from bleaching. This was the day before my graduation. The color was bright yellow. They fit me in as an emergency fix, gave me a sandy blonde colour to patch up the botched job, and even left some highlights in to give it dimension. This was with minimal attention, because the colourist actually had another client at the same time, and it still turned out perfectly. My mother has gotten a lot of styling jobs from the same salon, and hers always turn out looking very natural, while masking the grey that's starting to come in. I've seen other colouring jobs that were on the other side of the spectrum--very bold and startling--too, so I would say they have an acceptable range. Styling: I have switched hairdressers a few times; they all have distinct point of view, which sometimes means that the styling wasn't quite how I wanted. I'm VERY low-maintenance, and I've been going to Michelle down at the Arboretum branch for that reason. Before her, I was going to Anthony up at this branch, and he is GREAT, just his hair styles are more for someone who is willing to put in a little work, and I'm a college student. With that said, though, I've had everything from a super short cut to bangs to long, layered hair, and they've done a great job with each. The price range for stylists starts at about $35, and that's mostly for people just starting out at the salon. They're all trained well, however, and I've had two beginning stylists with no problem. The people there are very friendly and receptive, and they always offer beverages and have good magazines for the waiting room, not to mention the comfy seats. :]
The week before I visited Fiji nail salon I had heard a discussion on a radio show about nail salons. Many callers phoned in sharing their different experiences, many of them negative. One comment that everyone had in common was that no matter what salon you visit the staff would be having loud conversations with each other in a different language and you never knew if they were talking and laughing about you. Another common practice was for staff to talk on the phone while they worked on your nails, slowing their work down. I have experienced all of the above. I just believed it was common practice and they were all the same. So when I was at Fiji I just watched assuming it would be the same there as everywhere else I had been. It was very different. I was there for about 1 hour. Not once did a staff member take a personal phone call or text. When they needed to speak to each other, it was quietly and in english. They were very pleasant and it was so relaxing. Toward the end of my visit I spoke to an employee who was putting the finishing touchs on my nails. I told her how I had heard the radio discussion and that I had just watched, curious to see if it was the same here as everywhere else. I complimented their service and told her how different this experience was. She said it was store policy and that if employees needed to be reached by family or friends they had to call the business phone. I would definitely recommed visiting Fiji Nail salon. The atmosphere was relaxing. The staff were wonderful. The prices are very competitive with every other nail salon in the area and you can get coupons for money off in the coupon clipper magazine and on line!! All of the above is why I'd rate my experience as exceptional.
