Club K-9 is fantastic- the staff is dedicated, knowledgeable, and they love their work. In fact, they have probably saved our home from the gnawing tendencies of our lab mix. When we first got our dog, he was a year old with the typical over-energetic, over-enthusiastic tendencies of labs- and he had no manners. He was diagnosed with heartworms as soon as we brought him home, and during the month of enforced inactivity during treatment we endured the destruction of well-loved books, tapes, and articles of clothing. We knew he needed more than two full-time people could give him by ourselves. Club K-9 was the perfect opportunity to socialize our dog and give him the exercise that he needed. He now goes three days a week (tail wagging and without looking back at us as soon as he gets into the building), and has not chewed a thing in the house since we began taking him more than 2 years ago. The staff at Club K-9 provides fantastic attention and care, as well as discipline when needed- and they make sure the owners are involved and updated on their dog’s behavior. They ensure that all of the dogs "play nicely" together, are up to date on their shots, and make sure the dogs are placed into the appropriate group for their size and temperament. The facilities are always clean, and the staff always has time for any questions we might have, or just a friendly chat about everyone's day. In addition to doggie day care, Club K-9 offers reasonable boarding, and it is wonderful to be able to take a vacation knowing that our dog is in a place he loves, with people and other dogs he knows well, and knowing that unlike many boarding facilities, he isn't penned up all day. He can stay a week at Club K-9 and be ready to go back the day after we pick him up if we'd let him! Club K-9 also offers training classes, and Kim, a certified trainer with impeccable credentials, not only helps owners train their dogs, but she trains the owners to pay attention to their dog's signals for more effective communication and how to be dominant (and not let the dog be dominant over the owner). Our dog participated in a session of basic training, and with regular, ongoing practice, it has turned a wildly enthusiastic lab mix that jumps over six feet high into a fun, sweet, and (mostly) obedient dog. I can not recommend Club K-9 enough; some people may laugh that we take our dog to day care, but without Club K-9 we'd not be in the fantastic position that we are now with our dog (and half of the items in the house would probably not be here either). The facility truly is a place where our dog "loves to play and stay."
My 2 dogs go there 3 times a week and they have the best time! They actually know what days of of the week they go to daycare and each morning they wait for me at the door to take them. When I pick them up from a long day of work, they come out to greet me with smiles and tails wagging, and I can tell that they've been running around with their pals all day. By the time I get them home they are so tired they eat and go straight to bed, and they don't want to get up until the next morning! It's an awesome feeling to know that they are hanging out with their friends all day and getting their excercise. I've got a beagle and they can get overweight, but mine is in shape and active. I also don't have to worry about coming home to destroyed furniture, rugs or shoes, since my dogs don't have all of that pent up energy that usually leads to misbehavior. Also, the staff at Club K-9 are great, friendly, and you can tell each one is a dog lover. I know that because my dogs will immediately go up to them and ask for attention, as if to say "hey, I know you, we're buddies!". Club K-9 is affordable, the staff is awesome, and I never have to feel guilty that my dogs are sitting at home bored----just waiting for me to come home.
You will know that your pet likes daycare if you show up at the end of the day to pick them up and they run back into the play area when they see you! This is a daily occurrence for our 2 year old Westie (Vail) and is quite embarrasing when other owners are around. We have a 12 1/2 year old Lab at home that is quite comfortable having the house to herself during the daytime. When we got our Westie we knew she will need to visit doggie daycare a couple of times a week to keep the Lab happy. We visited numerous doggie day care centers before deciding on Club K-9 when she was 4 months old. The reason we selected Club K-9 was (1) incredible staff that loves our dog as much as we do (2) awesome facility (3) very clean facility (which is important) (4) convenient hours and (5) overnight boarding when we travel. Ok, fast forward 18 months. Our westie goes to daycare every day (she gets grumpy when she is at home all day), she boards a couple of nights most every month because I travel for work, and as gas prices have gone up (we live in Cornelius but work in Charlotte) the only expense in our budget that has not been trimmed is doggie day care! I would highly recommend this facility for any dog owner.
