Wow....what an experience. I was hesitant to try this place due to the poor reviews;however the concierge at the Westin recommended it. I am sure glad i didn't let a couple of bad experiences shy me away.We started with the jumbo lump crab cake and kobe caps.I had the new yorker and my wife had the pan seared mahi mahi.I honestly have to say everything was great; from presentation to palate. Food was timely and our server did a great job spacing out the app. and entrees. Service was also great. I mentioned the bad reviews to the server and suprisingly she was well aware of the situation. She told me that the were in the process of a total restuarant overhaul. New management(already present as a delightful gentleman came over during the dinner to ensure everything was above expectations) new servers( ours was extremely pleasant and very knowledgable) and the only downside is their executive chef had moved on.( I would of never known; at least i didnt taste it and suffer from an inferior product) My wife and i do extensive traveling and have visited many restaurants around the world. I can assure you Aquavina will now be permantly associated with all of my Charlotte visits.Hats off to the team at Aquavina for delivering a wonderful dining experience. My mom always told me to second guess everyones opinion and try to form your own.....this time it worked to my advantage.

First of all, I don’t like most seafood restaurants because their fried seafood tastes so greasy. But my kids really do. So we tried Pier 51. WE LOVE THIS PLACE. The food was better than any seafood restaurant we have ever been to and we have eaten at all the local seafood places as well as the chains. I had the fried combo platter and it was an overly generous portion. The fish was light and flaky and the shrimp was crunchy and delicious. It was simply perfect. I asked my husband, who had worked in a Fish camp in high school why Pier 51’s seafood was so much better. He says that the key to the best seafood is to change the oil frequently so that must be what Pier 51 is doing. The kid’s portions were large also and my kids are big eaters. Also, the staff is friendly and attentive. It has a great family atmosphere. Last, the restaurant is spotless…including the restrooms. Give this place a try!
The drink specials were awesome! A friend of mine and I were planning on going out and grabbing a drink on a beautiful spring day. We sat out on a patio on the water, and shared a pitcher for $5! It was a Wednesday, so I thought that they were just trying to bring people in, but was surprised to see great beer AND liqueur specials all week long. From $5 martinis on saturday to $2 U call its on Thursday. While we were planning on just grabbing a drink, we were really surprised with the menu that we split the crab queso and fried pickles. They were both delicious. I am planning on taking my husband back and trying some more of the menu. It was a nice restaurant, with great service. I definitely recommend it!
