I live half an hour away from this salon, without traffic. If I could find a closer salon that came even close to its quality, I would go there instead. No other hair salon has been able to take my home chemist personality and difficult, wavy, thin hair and do anything useful with it. Colouring: My stylist calls me the home chemist. One time, I went a little crazy and bleached my locks too soon after dyeing it BACK from bleaching. This was the day before my graduation. The color was bright yellow. They fit me in as an emergency fix, gave me a sandy blonde colour to patch up the botched job, and even left some highlights in to give it dimension. This was with minimal attention, because the colourist actually had another client at the same time, and it still turned out perfectly. My mother has gotten a lot of styling jobs from the same salon, and hers always turn out looking very natural, while masking the grey that's starting to come in. I've seen other colouring jobs that were on the other side of the spectrum--very bold and startling--too, so I would say they have an acceptable range. Styling: I have switched hairdressers a few times; they all have distinct point of view, which sometimes means that the styling wasn't quite how I wanted. I'm VERY low-maintenance, and I've been going to Michelle down at the Arboretum branch for that reason. Before her, I was going to Anthony up at this branch, and he is GREAT, just his hair styles are more for someone who is willing to put in a little work, and I'm a college student. With that said, though, I've had everything from a super short cut to bangs to long, layered hair, and they've done a great job with each. The price range for stylists starts at about $35, and that's mostly for people just starting out at the salon. They're all trained well, however, and I've had two beginning stylists with no problem. The people there are very friendly and receptive, and they always offer beverages and have good magazines for the waiting room, not to mention the comfy seats. :]

The week before I visited Fiji nail salon I had heard a discussion on a radio show about nail salons. Many callers phoned in sharing their different experiences, many of them negative. One comment that everyone had in common was that no matter what salon you visit the staff would be having loud conversations with each other in a different language and you never knew if they were talking and laughing about you. Another common practice was for staff to talk on the phone while they worked on your nails, slowing their work down. I have experienced all of the above. I just believed it was common practice and they were all the same. So when I was at Fiji I just watched assuming it would be the same there as everywhere else I had been. It was very different. I was there for about 1 hour. Not once did a staff member take a personal phone call or text. When they needed to speak to each other, it was quietly and in english. They were very pleasant and it was so relaxing. Toward the end of my visit I spoke to an employee who was putting the finishing touchs on my nails. I told her how I had heard the radio discussion and that I had just watched, curious to see if it was the same here as everywhere else. I complimented their service and told her how different this experience was. She said it was store policy and that if employees needed to be reached by family or friends they had to call the business phone. I would definitely recommed visiting Fiji Nail salon. The atmosphere was relaxing. The staff were wonderful. The prices are very competitive with every other nail salon in the area and you can get coupons for money off in the coupon clipper magazine and on line!! All of the above is why I'd rate my experience as exceptional.
To the review below, I was actually there that day when she came in. It was also my first time and I came with my friend who had highly recommended it to me b/c she has been going to Trini (owner) for years. I was helped by Katrina, the owner's daughter. She was very sweet and helped me take care of my cuticles, which i have a bad habit of picking at. She recommended that I get the gel manicure to help cure me of my bad habit. "If your nails are pretty and painted, maybe you won't be so tempted to pick at them!" She was a total sweetheart. I actually overheard the fight that was going on up front. Katrina pointed it out to me later on what she was talking about. The owner posted an example of the coupon she has on the front door for people to know about and to bring if they were to come in. Katrina then said, "if my mom gave everyone that price b/c they saw it on our door to advise people to bring it...then she wouldn't need to pay for the coupons, she could just do that price then" which makes sense to me. I don't know about the other incidents that may have happened but the coupon incident was completely taken out of hand to my opinion. The lady herself was rude and hollering inside of a business place. I enjoyed my time and experience at the salon and enjoyed Katrina's services very much. I would hate for one person's misunderstandings to put a bad rep on the salon. All in all, misunderstandings happens, but you also get more with honey than with salt. I, myself will be back at Suki so I can see my favorite new nail tech!
I was in need of a hair makeover; but didn't really have an idea of what I wanted. I was ready for a new perspective from the hairdresser I had been seeing for years. When I read a review of 8 the Salon; it described exactly what I was looking for- they assess your features and match your hair style to compliment or bring out your best possible looks with the capabilities of your own hair type. I called to schedule an appointment and found the staff to be very congenial and was able to get an appointment scheduled to fit the timeframe I requested without any hesitation. When I arrived, I found the salon was immaculate, and the staff very personable-everyone was smiling and upbeat, they spoke to the guest and each other with respect- very professional. Brittani was my stylist she explained why my features needed the types of hair styles that we can consider and then taught me how to style the cut, and suggested the products to maintain the style. I am thrilled with the style; and my hair is cut according to its natural tendency to fall, so IT JUST LOOKS GREAT! I can't remember when I have been this happy with my hairstyle. I give 8 the Salon my highest recommendation, I can't say enough for the staff and Britanni in particular- they are the best!
I went to Polished for the first time on 11/21/10 and recieved a fill-in. Let me first start off by saying that the salon is different then your regular nail salons hence (Nail Bar). The man who did my fill-in was very nice but his hand technique was horrible. First off I do not like for my acrylic nails to look thick and that's excactly what happen, then he went on to do my nail polish which he put on too thick and looked lumpy and sloopy, when he finished he told me to let my nails air dry. Huh?! What salon does that?!? They have no nail drying stations, so i had to ASK for a fan or something. So after I sat for awhile about 20 min, my nails still werent dry, this girl i was sitting next to offered me her UV nail dryer after she was done. So my opinion about this place is that the people and their hand techniques are very average but they do offer the newest nail products but after I called around to other nail salons I found they offer the same things they have but at a cheaper cost.( Shellac Nails $45 at Polished and $30 at Dilworth Nail Salon) So if you ask me, i think Polished Nail Bar is a very average nail SALON. The people there are nice but not worth the hype nor the drive. Maybe I'll try their other locations in the near future.
This is the best place to visit if you want to have a polished look on your nails. LOL. They literally make you feel good. I cannot say enough about them working tiredlessly on my toes. They gave me a good massage and put three and a half coats on your feet before leaving. If you are not wearing open toe shoes, they will give you free slippers to walk away with. I also like to go in, in a hot afternoon when I need a free soda. Can you believe this? they give you free refreshments whenever you are there for a mani/pedi. If you are not driving and wanting a glass of good wine, they have white wines available as well. I like to get their wax. Their staff is professional, quick and well versed in their removal techniques. The products they used are also non-irritating. I have sensitive skin and it is important to me that the tools they used are sanitized and the products are gentle and non irritating to my skins. I am completedly satisfied and will return for future visits. I will also bring my roommate and best friend here for their birthdays so they can leave some nice memories on their walls. LOL. Did I tell you that iPolished grace their walls with many of their customers' comments/praises! Way to go. Love your service, iPolished.
Richard was highly recommended to me by a friend after I moved here from California. He is as talented as anyone in Beverly Hills! Truly knows how to cut (dry "so you can see how your hair moves") and my color went from a flat honey blonde to a shiny, multi-dimensional blonde bombshell! I felt like a movie star walking out of that salon! Watching him cut your hair is like being in the hands of an artist/sculpter. You will NOT be disappointed with your cut and color. When you sit in that chair, and Richard listens, analyzes, and creates your best look, you are indeed investing in yourself, so it is nice to know that you really get your money's worth! The salon is comfortable (separate area/room) for each stylist) and the staff are so friendly (coffee, cookies, water?) Prices are competitive and well worth it. I took my college-daughter to the salon for a cut ... Richard immediately showed her the buildup on her never-colored hair; it was full of waxy, heavy conditioners, and needed a thorough cleansing. He used a clarifying shampoo and rinsed her hair to a glossy silk! He cut beautiful layers throughout her thick hair, and she walked out of there with that "Kim Kardashian" cut she wanted!
iPolished is the best nail spa in town. I love and love this place. I think what distinguishes this place from another is the people who worked there. You don't see a lot of turn over and you can always ask for the same nail tech you have before. Both the nail techs and managers are friendly. They always want to do their best to provide you with the most sincere, competitive and thorough customer services. It is not that I don't smear my nails when drying but they always come back and help me to repair the smear at no charge to me. I can always ask for scrub for my hands and they don't ever say "NO". Every time I visit them for a re-fill, I see other customers smiling, enjoying their mani with their friends or having a blast over a mini celebratory gathering over a glass of wine. The manager always try to accomondate and you will not have to wait long before you are being seated and ask what you needed done. Just customer service alone is worth 10 bright stars. They are a OPI designated seller and the colors they have in Essie is also overwhelming. I highly recommended this to anyone who wants to walk out looking posh, flashy and hot everyday! :)
I'm really shocked by the previous reviews and that's putting it mildly! I have been going to My Day Spa for 6 years now and I've always had AMAZING service! Before coming to My Day Spa, I tried out half a dozen nail spas in the area and even got a fungal infection from one...Jay (the owner) knew exactly what to do and it healed rather quickly. I have been to this salon at every possible hour of the day and every day of the week and I'm always pleased with my service. I've NEVER seen any kind of discrimination going on and I'm always a walk-in customer so it's not like they're on their 'best behavior' because I'm there. I would recommend My Day Spa to anyone/everyone and wouldn't hesitate for a moment in doing so! I've been fortunate enough to get to know the owners as people and I gladly call them friends!!! Btw, I've had acrylic/gel nails for 20 years now so I've been through my fair share of salons and they're one of the best! To anyone who has had bad service, give them another chance because everyone has their off days =)
This was my first trip to Yvelisse's Salon and I loved it! I recently moved to Charlotte and was concerned about finding a new hair salon to care for my natural hair. My last hair stylist pressed my hair with the old fashioned hot comb and hot flat iron (not the ceramics, but the ones that actually go on the hotbed). She advised me to try a Dominican shop after I moved, so I did. My mother suggested I try Yvelisse's and I was able to walk right in to have my blow-out done within an hour, but it was on a Tuesday. The salon itself is beautiful and I was greeted and treated kindly from the moment I walked in! I would have given them 5 stars, but I felt the services were a little more costly than what I'm used to. I paid $55 for a wash, condition (I got the $5 one), blow-out and my ends trimmed. Yvelisse actually gave me the conditioning for free, so it would have been $60. However, I will definitely go back because my hair looks and feels wonderful! I would definitely recommend this salon!
