My husband and I stayed this past weekend, and had a wonderful time. We really appreciated the NO SMOKING in the hotel AND casino. Every staff person (both in front of the house and back of the house) that we encountered was friendly, helpful, always smiling. We won at several games and slots, and had really super meals, great wait staff, etc. We will definitely be coming again. We have been all over the U.S. this was fun. Hopefully we won't have any bad moments like some seem t...view moreo have had. We loved our visit. A great anniversary get away close to Kentucky.view lessProvided by Citysearch
This casino is about an hour and a half drive for us, but we decided to go and check it out. My mother and her girlfriend are seniors so we chose to go on Thursday to take advantage of Senior activities and discounts. It is easy to find and the parking was great. We first went to sign up for the players cards and we were not given any explanations about benefits. The woman helping us clearly did not want to answer our questions and it seemed as if we were interrupting her (we were the ...view moreonly people in line). One of the senior activities is a drawing every half hour to spin a wheel for casino cash, and my mom was called to spin the wheel. She ""won"" $10 casino cash which downloads to your card and it took us two trips to the desk and two hours to actually get the money. We expected high prices for dining but the food wasn't very good so a big disappointment. We never did find a ""server"" to offer us drinks, and overall did not have a pleasant experience. Our thoughts are, well maybe we will try again in a year and see if they have improved their service!view lessProvided by Citysearch
My wife and I have stayed here at lease 6 times in the last year since it opened. First, our room was a queen not the king that we reserved. When I spoke with the manager I was surprised to get flack, she was very argumentative. Saying the rooms were the same price, and they were full and couldn't move us. I was also told that we could not have booked a king room since we called a week prior and they were sold out of king rooms for 2 weeks. I know that the girl I spoke with said that t...view morehey had everything available. We got no relief. You think that a multi million dollar operation would offer up some type of comp or a discount but, Nope, not even an apology.\r
This was our first clue that things were going to be interesting.\r
We checked in on Friday and did not get our room cleaned Saturday, minor issue. I was determined not to let it spoil my Anniversary weekend.\r
The First Turn restaurant on Sunday we were seated then informed that we would have a 10-15 min wait for our server, when we asked if the hostess could bring us a glass of water, we were told no. We left after another couple said they had already been waiting 10 min for the server.\r
The Cafe' Orleans was very busy all weekend and staffed with inexperienced employees. It took over an hour each time we visited waiting in line. Sunday they were out of salt and ketchup packets. The employees had no idea where to go get them.\r
They have two Craps tables but refused to open the other one, even with 40 people crowded around the one that was open. This went on until midnight when I finally decided to crowd in. It was so busy that the dealers and bosses had problems keeping up with the betting. I kept my bets to a minimum because If I lost track of my chips they would be gone. I know this because I did lose a few and nearly lost more. These dealers are very good an I can't really complain about them because they had their hands full. Anyone who has played or watched can understand.\r
I witnessed other patrons having issues like one was accused of smoking in the room, they did not smoke. The maid said smoke was rolling out from under the door! Shouldn't she have pulled the fire alarm? It takes alot of smoke in a room to roll under the door. They should have at least been confonted before accusing them.\r
Another lady (prob in her 60's) was forced to put her drink down because she didn't have ID, She was drinking a coke, and they didn't ask for ID they just told her to put it down because she didn't. This was a floor person. She asked how they knew she didn't have it? It didn't seem to make a difference.\r
All ID's should have been checked at the door.\r
They also cut the breakfast hours to 9 am on the weekend, normally 10am. What is that about? People sleep in on the weekend! This is backwards.\r
The bottom line is we paid extra for the holiday weekend. This is assumed that we were paying extra so they could provide good service, not the case. It looked like they only had half staff on duty. \r
The slots were not paying, Here in WV the slots lock up at 1200 and the bells ring etc. I saw/heard one all three days. \r
The table games weren't doing anything either. No yelling in celebration. All the tables were full all day. Other tables were left closed.\r
I have watched the satisfaction drop like a rock over the last year.\r
It was almost like they were broke and could only afford to take your money. I know it's a casino and you win some you lose some. No one was winning some.\r
I would like to get a closer look at that craps table, I just dont see how it can be a loser that many times. I played all three days so, I wasn't just hitting it at a bad time.\r
The owners have become greedy, both from the casino side and hotel side.\r
We visited Marti Gras August 2010 for my hubbies birthday. We normally go to Cherokee nc when we can get away. We like Marti Gras so much better. They have live tables, not computers and they really appriciate you being there. the drive is only 1 hour more from our home in NC and well worth it. Give them a try. you will never go back to Cherokee. Can't wait to go back in March for the poker tournament. love you guysProvided by Citysearch
