Emergency Care
The advice nurses are all registered nurses (RNs) with specific training in utilizing published telephone triage protocols to assess and then guide the caller to the appropriate level of care. Our nurses assist patients and family members in making decisions about the need for appointments in the office, obtaining referrals, or whether they may need to seek emergency care. In addition, our advice nurses assist patients and families with refilling routine prescriptions under refill medication protocols written by the physicians, as well as assisting with completing medical forms and obtaining prior authorizations for the individual insurance companies.

Families may request that a general form and immunization record be completed as part of the annual physical. This can be kept by the family and used for many camp and other activities. Note that some organizations will require that patients complete the organization’s own, specific physical form. Please be sure to bring all necessary form(s), with patient information completely filled in, to the front desk so we may copy and save them in our records.

Labor and Delivery
After you deliver your baby, please inform the hospital staff in Labor and Delivery that Chapel Hill Pediatrics and Adolescents will be caring for your baby (offering the name of any of our pediatricians, too, often reduces confusion). Additionally, should you have pressing concerns not answered by the hospital personnel, please call our office and get a message to our on-call pediatrician.

Autism
Whatever you are looking for — a day camp for your child with autism, a lactation consultant, a children’s heart specialist, or a child mental health provider — our practice can help you locate important patient resources. Our doctors maintain connections with pediatric sub-specialty physicians or therapists in private practices, as well as with Duke Medicine, UNC Medical Center, and other community assistance for your child.

Because of the time involved, yearly annual exam visits may not be the best time to address chronic health issues such as asthma, diabetes or ADHD in great depth. However, we will always make every effort to identify all significant health issues during check-ups, renew all prescriptions and give you follow-up recommendations.

If concerns with specific academic, emotional, physical, and/or social issues are identified in the physical exam and evaluation, a follow-up appointment will be recommended to continue appropriate evaluation and management.
