We found Allen and Son by accident, but so far they're our absolute favorite! OK, granted we only order the barbecue plate and haven't sampled anything else (why would we- we go there solely for the barbecue). I will admit there have been times we were served burnt or pieces of grizzle, but that was late in the evening, right before they closed. If you get there early in the evening, you don't have that problem. The only time I can say I had a "bad experience" with Allen and Son is when we ordered take out and it was cold and kinda dry by the time we got it home. So if you want to go there: * Don't order take out * Eat in * Get there well before closing BTW- this is one of the very few places we've found anywhere that serves HOMEMADE desserts. No frozen, store bought junk here. In our book, thats an added bonus.

So I could tell you about the laid back atmosphere and the great service at Dickey's, but I'm a guy and the most important thing about this place is…
The Pig continues to deliver top notch Carolina Barbeque. The Pigs are farm raised without the industrial hormones and especially butchered of the shop. The pulled pork is especially juicy sweet and succulent. The ribs are the meatiest ribs you are likely to find anywhere. The home made bacon is especially good. Of special sides, the fried green tomatoes are crispy and lightly tart. I am not fond of the potato salad but the greens are tasty. I especially like them with a dash of Texas Pete. This restaurant is only a couple of miles from my home and is a restaurant I like to take out-of-towners for a simple example of Carolina barbeque. If you have room the desserts are worth a try. The restaurant is itself quite simple with no frills. If you want atmosphere I suggest getting the food to go.
My experience at Jim's was great. What I liked the most about the restaurant is the fact that you are not limited to what is on the menu. They try to accomodate your likes/wants to the best of their ability. You can switch out sides for other ones at no extra charge, you can ask for 2 dressings for one salad....yea, they do their best to take care of you. PLUS, the food is great!!! The meat on the ribs was tender and you could tell it was really hickory smoked not "faked". So all in all I give Jim's 5 stars and recommend it to those of you who enjoy a great atmosphere, fun servers, and great food.
