Glaucoma occurs from damage to the eye’s optic nerve and can often lead to loss of vision and blindness. To detect glaucoma, Dr. Davidson will perform a proper screening to determine severity, examine the damage, and help you manage your glaucoma.

Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration is a deterioration of the central portion of the retina, the inside layer of the eye that records the images we see and sends them through the optic nerve from the eye to the brain for processing. The macula, or the center of the retina, is responsible for focusing central vision in the eye and controls our ability to see and process information.
Laser Eye Surgery
LASIK stands for laser in-situ keratomileusis and is a popular surgery to correct vision problems. LASIK can help people who are nearsighted as well those who have astigmatism.

Eye Exam
In addition, information obtained during a comprehensive eye examination can detect chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. The early detection of these conditions is paramount to early treatment.

Dr. Davidson was born in Georgia in 1963. The family moved a lot, so he had the chance to grow up in Florida and Northern Virginia. After graduating from James Madison High School in Vienna, VA, he attended the University of Virginia. He enjoyed the Echols Scholar program, graduating in 1985 with a degree in Chemistry. It was then on to medical school at Duke. Medical school was interesting, but he found himself particularly fascinated whenever the lecture turned to how the topic affected the eyes or vision. After spending much of his third year of medical school at the Duke Eye Center doing research, the decision to pursue Ophthalmology was cemented. After an internship in Internal Medicine, he started training in Ophthalmology at Tulane University in New Orleans in 1991.

Some of the most common eye conditions caused by hyperglycemia are cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy, which occurs when the tiny blood vessels in your eyes become damaged by the high blood sugar levels over time.
