Tucked away amidst the freeway overpass and a commercial district, Food Co in San Francisco is a find. It caters mostly to the neighborhoods of SoMa and the Mission, and stock lots of mexi-ethnic foods. They run a great weekly ad and a no frills shopping enviroment. Still, the prices are hard to beat, and the produce is fresh and abundant. I shop here monthly, and its a gem in a city full of yuppy grocery shopping. A friend who recently experienced FoodCo with me was not only thrilled with the prices, but the locatiion as well. The parking can get a little tight, but that speaks to its popularity. Its like an indoor farmers market.

This is not your average corner store -- Saba, the owner, has an eye for a good deal when it comes to wine. You will find a nice bottle here for dinner at home or when you need to bring something special to a party and not be disappointed. The place is immaculately clean which is all thanks to Saba ... it was nasty before he took over. Not the spot to do your everyday groceries of course but great for booze plus soft drinks, snacks & treats. They have frozen dinners, pet food, ready-made sandwiches, and the basic grocery store items. I'm very lucky to have one of the best corner stores in the city on my block!
located in central Japantown, Nijiya offers everything Japanese, from fresh food in a fridge case to the atypical supermarket goods. They have a great seafood section, tons of sake, all manner of ramen/udon/soba and other noodles, multiple mega snack aisles, a frozen section, more rice selection than you will ever need, and more. Plan to spend a good amount of time pouring over each aisle. I love this place. And they have sales, just like a normal market. Go now!
