I live a mile from Dirk's and have frequented it for the last 25 years. It has gone through name and ownership changes, the most recent has changed it from a friendly neighborhood bar/grill with pretty good food and good service to a noisy mess on weekends and disinterested during the week. I too have been met with long waits for service-EVEN WHILE SITTING AT THE BAR WITH NOTHING IN FRONT OF ME. Did they think I came in just to sit and watch TV? I asked for a menu and after 15 minutes I had to ask the barkeep if she could take my order. There were about 10 other customers in the entire bar at the time and she was acting like a food order was just too much. After waiting another 20 minutes, I asked her if my burger was ready. She sighed, walked to the kitchen and yelled something about my burger and went back to the bar, ignoring me as she walked by. The cook brought my food out, barely warm, fries cold. I asked if I could pay the manager. The manager could have cared less if I got food or not. I explained to him the situation and asked him what his plan was. He told me I owed him for the burger. I told him to keep it and went to Burger King across the street and have never been back.
It's a place where they want to do as little as possible for the customer. Almost as if the customer is a nusiance. I agree with the other customers, the staff is generally disinterested in being there. But hang tight folks! They won't last much longer till they tire of the business and the next owner might return it to a local sports bar, but it will take awhile before the OLD customers come back.
My recommendation: Go somewhere else till these jokers wake up and realize that the bar bizz is customer service and customer relations...after all, there is a liqour store next door and those folks are very friendly.
