We have traveled a LOT in my husband's 28 years of military service. Recently we took a trip that was just for the two of us, to Mammoth and since we arrived late in the evening, we thought we'd have trouble finding a good place to eat. We were SO wrong. Exhausted, we wandered in to the Cast Iron Kettle about 45 minutes prior to closing and were SO happy to get a steaming hot, fresh meal that knocked our socks off. I had what was probably the best spaghetti dinner I've ever had. Homemade sauce, perfect noodles. My husband had roast beef and gravy, mashed potatoes. Portions were beyond generous and the wait staff could NOT have been more friendly and welcoming. We ventured to a different restaurant the next evening (supposedly the best according to the locals) and were so disappointed. Nothing homemade on the menu, the waitress was almost rude and the "buffet" consisted of maybe 8 items. Needless to say, we had breakfast 2 days in a row (VERY economical, GOOD food and portions to satisfy!) at the Cast Iron Kettle and when we head back to Mammoth in November, we know where we'll be eating. THANK YOU for a wonderful vacation experience!!!!
