Old-fashioned charm found here. If you need glitzy, showy and bubbly, this is not the place for you. The shop is in an older, worn cottage, easily accessible on a busy street. You must be an independent sort with the curiosity to explore the little rooms populated with a myriad of beautiful yarns. The proprietor, an older lady who seems to be not well, is reserved but most knowledgeable about knitting, weaving, and anything about textiles. Tell her if you're looking for something particular and she'll tell you exactly where it is. Ask her her anything about knitting, spinning or weaving and be prepared for a short lesson and maybe a referral to written instructions whether or not she sells them. She's a quiet, reserved person, but as you talk with her, she opens up to the subject because of the common interest you share. I left the shop feeling as if I had stepped back 40 years, with respect you have for someone who obviously knows her craft.

This store is definitely an adventure and not for the faint of heart. I stop in about once a week, and buy a lot of sale items. Most of the time they are very friendly, some days a little more reserved, but that's part of the charm. Yes, the physical condition of the shop is interesting, and yes, Rush Limbaugh might be yelling at you on the radio. WYSIWYG. However, you absolutely cannot beat the inventory and pricing. They have just about EVERYTHING including novelty yarn, linen, and discontinued stuff. If you are just learning to knit or crochet, start with a class at A.C. Moore or Michael's and then come here. If you want suburban perfection and people to fall all over you, (I personally like being left alone) there are other stores in the Triangle you will probably like better. I personally hope to be shopping here for a long, long time.
I agree that this should be called the "crazy yarn house". Other yarn stores are boring by comparison. The owner is always there and has been able to answer every question I have thrown at her. The prices are better then some other shops and there is a great selection. This is a great shop for beginners and experts alike. It is so much fun to wonder around and see what you can find. Each time I go is like a treasure hunt. I also like the fact that I am supporting a local shop owner. I like that I see the same face every time I come in, and her knowledge of the products is astounding.
