I LOVE this STORE! Rick & Sharon Chidester are real people, making real efforts to support the community, the visitors to the community, the customers of their store, and the strangers that are looking for directions! I am the pastor of the little church across the street, Rockcastle UMC, and I can only say, I love them both! They don't come to my church, they run a liquor store, and they hold the key to the church for all the folks in the community that need in from time to time. If you get a bad cup of coffee, don't get on the internet and complain about it, speak to Rick or Sharon, real people, and they might just give you another one, and talk to you when they make a fresh pot. Don't like the price of buns, spend the $5.00 in gas and the hour round trip to go into town and buy them at the Food Giant or Hancock's, or go back out to the interstate and see how well you fair at Max Fuel Express. The truck that comes to Handy Corner charges them a fuel fee for the trip, part of doing business. And does this couple get rich off your business, I don't think so. We pray for them that they might have enough to make ends meet, that their expressions of kindness and compassions might be the by product of the love they have for one another, and for those that come into the store. No dinner, breakfast, or lunch, well, they respect "The Fishin Hole" across the street, that does have a breakfast, lunch, and dinner except on Monday, and if they see you, they might just fix you something. Handy Corner, The Fishin Hole, and the Rockcastle community has earned a little respect with its kindness, unrelenting selflessness, and overall good cheer. If asked, I am prejudice, for I am an outsider that has been treated as one of their own. It doesn't get better than that!
