Established in 1989 and situated directly across from City Hall on Church Street in downtown Burlington, Quarterstaff Games is Vermont's largest and oldest gaming store, and one of the largest in New England. The retail space on the second floor was created as a bar and operated under the name B.T. McGuire's for a number of years before Quarterstaff Games came into being. The medieval tavern atmosphere of the premises have been maintained and augmented: torches line the walls above bookcases, exposed brick provides rustic texture behind the iron-bound counter, and the warm glow from wooden banisters and arches retrieved from churches create a cozy nook where gamers from all over have been escaping from the cold, cruel world of reality for 25 years.
