City of Burleson

My daughter and I started volunteering at this shelter this week and it was amazing!! We got to spend time playing with the Cats and will definitely be returning to spend time with the dog!!
They were very kind and showed us around before we started. It was great!!

My 3 children and I took time out of our day to go and hopefully volunteer with some sweet puppies.



At first, we were greeted with kindness as we filled at all the paperwork and were allowed to only look at the cats and dogs.



The day we actually went to volunteer, we were not treated as I felt "volunteers" should be treated. Of course, my kids were extremely excited to participate. We had hard time keeping them at our side and were informed that my kids needed to be in sight at all times. No problem, I thought. We did immediately corrected the problem. There were at lease 4 employees present and not ONE took the time to properly train us how a volunteer should interact with ALL the animals. I was given a leash but not even aware of how I was able to get the dogs out or even given instructions on how to open cages or which way to exit with the dogs. I was made aware and forced to sign a one time only warning that was apparently typed up while we were trying our best to figure out how things worked hands on. Several times one employee who took the time to watch us on camera would run out and say, "no, you cant touch that dog." Volunteers should be properly trained just as working employees in my opinion. Both my soon to be spouse and myself felt lost as the employees came down on us for doing wrong when not one to the time to show us correctly what to do.
