Not happy to see bad reviews about Bastet especially since we had such a pleasant experience with Dr. Basilious and staff. I guess everyone is entitled to there opinion, and here is mine. After my wife unknowingly ran over our cat while backing out of our drive way we rushed our cat to Dr. Basilious. We didn’t even know what happened at first, we just saw her laying there and thought that maybe she had a stoke. After the doctor examined our cat he recommended x-rays be taken to see if there were any broken bones. He was right, she unfortunately had a few bones broken including her pelvis. So after the doctor explained to us our options in depth we opted to keep her hospitalized over night and have a specialist come in the review her case to see if she would need surgery. The following day the specialist consulted with me and informed me that she would do fine without surgery which we were very happy to hear. All in all our experience with Bastet, Dr. Basilious, and staff went very well.
I found this hospital on-line and checked their reviews. I noticed many great reviews and a few sounding angry and hostile (because of the cost of the services.) I took a shot at it anyways being that it was a cat only hospital. My cat was having Diarrhea for 3 weeks. I had gotten her from the animal shelter and she had been spayed and got her vaccines there. She had tested negative for Leukemia and cat AIDS. When I booked my appointment at Bastet the receptionist was pleasant and informative. She told me to bring any old records and told me the office exam was $ 55.00. They also informed me they have coupons available online, VERY HELPFUL!!
During the appointment, Dr. Basilious did a fecal test. The test said it was negative for parasites, but Dr. told me it could be a viral disease like FIP or Inflammatory bowel syndrome. He gave me several options, which the receptionist showed me in a printed estimate. He told me I could either just start with the fecal test or do complete blood/ urine test and also x-rays. I choose to add the blood and urine test because I wanted to know. He gave me some medicine and told me to call back in 2 days with an update. One of the Bastet employees called me the following day and told me to come back in (free of charge) to speak to the Dr. regarding the lab results. He explained to me that the protein level was higher than the normal levels. The diarrhea subsided gradually and eventually went away completely with medications and special diet. I found Dr. Basilious was really up front, informative, and gave me options. My experience was positive; I would recommend Bastet to all my friends and family. Although the doctor told me what I did not like to hear he was defiantly more honest and upfront than others and diagnosed the problem right away.

Good: The staff is nice, they treated me with respect, handled my19 years old cat with love. The Dr. Eexpalind the problem , how he was going to fix it, and how to manage my cat with diet.. Bad: I had to fill paper work to have new file, I guess it is medical facility laws?. Improvements: Trim the trees on Olive Avenue to show more of their signage.. Other: Take your cat to Dr. Basilious and Bastet , theywill treat yourcat right.
My pet and I are new to the area. We received unfriendly service from a vet who was uncommunicative and unresponsive. After discussing my pet's recurring problem, which I've researched in great detail, the vet was going to send us off with some medication and nothing more. If I hadn't known information from my former vet, my pet would have been completely impacted and could possibly die if nothing more intense was performed on him. I would highly recommend you seek another vet. I found great care with another animal care provider in Burbank and advise you to keep looking if you're considering this vet.
I never thought anyone could replace Dr. Martin Small when he retired from VCA, but after several years' search I discovered Dr. Basilious. He tends to go after primary causes rather than symptoms, so I was initially startled that he wanted to attack my cat's renal problem at her dental abscesses (source of bacteria) - but it worked! While the initial dentistry was expensive, it only had to happen the one time (4 years ago). She's now 16 years old and is doing well on low-phosphorus food with no medication.
I took my cat in to see Dr. Basilious, because he specialized in felines only. My cat has never had any serious medical issues, and so I was quite concerned about his welfare. Dr. Basilious was very gruff and rude with me when I asked questions about my cat's condition. I wanted him to fully explain my cat's prognosis, but he seemed to take that as me being difficult. He charges double what most vets in the area charge. After visiting him, I ended up having to take my cat to an emergency clinic anyway, where they actually charged forty dollars LESS than Dr. Basilious, and yet it was emergency care. I definitely would not recommend Dr. Basilious to anyone.
Excellent Service and true care for our cats!! I would recommend to anyone
I have been taking my cats to Bastet since I moved to LA in 2002. In Boston I also had a Cat only Dr. They are cat specialist and therefore a bit more pricey than a "generic" vet but also more knowledgeable. It's like going to an specialist instead of a general practitioner for humans (which I also do). My pets are like family and I expect only the best. I have even asked around to my dog vets and Dr B has a great reputation. I highly recommend them.
Dr. Sam is very professional and openly shares his knowledge of veternary medicine every visit I make. The staff know me and my cat by first name and always go out of their way to make sure my aging cat is comfortable and healthy. I always recommend Dr. Sam & Bastet to everyone!
We've been taking our cats to Bastet for years. Through cancer, heart disease, irritable bowel disorder, and just plain check ups. Dr. Basilious is thorough and compassionate yet understands minimizing pain to the cats and cost to us. We've lost two pets while going to Bastet and, although our kitties eventually died, the care that they received during their health problems was excellent and the doctor and staff were extremely caring towards our babies and us. I could not recommend them more highly.
Being new to the L.A. area... I have been visiting Bastet with two different cats (of varied health) since 2004. At all times I found the environment to be calm, stable, courteous and helpful. Any vet dedicated to CATS ONLY wins with me... other vets in the area that I have been to have a somewhat chaotic environment, understandably (due to the varied species) but I've always felt my cats were tended to, in a calm and comfy fashion, at Bastet and would RECOMMEND IT HIGHLY. If there is but one criticism (minor) they might update their post card mailings, which sometimes have dated recommendations on them (e.g. vacination due) that are not always current. It's a proactive practice, the mailings, and I appreciate them... but sometimes I have to verify their accuracy. MORE IMPORTANTLY, Dr. Basilious is a good communicator, and TREATS MY CATS LIKE HE OWNS THEM. I never feel rushed or like I am just another "customer".
I love Bastet. The doc always takes really great care of my cat, and I wouldn't trust anywhere else with her. I tried many other places before finding Bastet. Thank goodness I found it!
Bastet Cat Hospital is the best place I’ve ever brought my cats. I would tell anyone in the entire area to bring their cats to Dr. Sam Basilious. Dr. Basilious is a warm, caring and responsible veterinarian.

Over the years we have relied on the vet and staff at Bastet Cat Hospital to provide the best for our cats. Our older kitties were treated with love and care (one lived to be 22!) and our other cats have all benefited from the doctor's extensive knowledge. I would recommend them.
DO NOT TRUST YOUR PET TO THIS CLINIC!!! The doctor is untrusting and unwilling to listen to his clients. He refused to write a prescription for our pet to use with an online pet medication service (he wanted to charge us for the medications at a higher rate?). The staff, except for one nurse, is pretty incompetant. One assistant didn't know the difference between .05 and .5. When you're dealing with a tiny cat, that difference is huge!! I can't say enough about how difficult and unpleasant it was to deal with this vet. PLEASE don't subject your cat to this awful environment.
The review is written here is by a significant other of a client whose cat is 17 years old with severe and serious medical conditions, the owner moved out of the state. Although the doctor handed them a prescription with three refills, they went shopping on line requesting 100 tablets more. Bastet and staff offered them to take the cat to the nearest vet in Las Vegas, and we would fax the records because the cat has to be rechecked to avoid her collapse from over dose. Insted, Ms. McXxxxx used foul language and started to post negative reviews. Bastet reserves all right, and the case in between our lawyer hands.

My first experience with this practice was in April 2007, when I took my cat in for an eye infection and was charged $227 for the treatment (exam, eye test, and eye drops). When I examined the detail, I realized they had charged me $75 for me to leave my cat there for the day (between 9 am and 6 pm). I questioned that and apparently it is standard practice to charge their customers for "hospitalization" when someone leaves their pet there for the day. I had asked them over the phone before making the appointment whether it would be OK to leave my cat there while I worked and pick her up on my way home, and they said it would be fine with no mention of ANY charge for that service. Other vets we have used always included the ability to leave our pet for the day, usually at no additional charge. We had selected Bastet since it is right around the corner from my job, but we definitely won't be going back. The care our cat received was OK, but did not stand out as any better than the care at other vets we have used. And to pay $75 for kitty day care is RIDICULOUS!!! We have 3 cats, and the staff at Bastet confirmed that if I were to drop the 3 off for exams and vaccinations and pick them up the same day, we would be charged $225 just for the day boarding, plus the exam and vaccine charges. Can you believe that?

I took my sick cat after I took my cat to other vets, they did not know what was wrong with my cat. The doctor was patient explained to me the condition and option of treatment , I was not given before. Hospital, Doctor, and staff are A+
