General Info
LeMatidora Inn was created by Malcolm, "Macky", Lincoln. Macky originally built the building as his home in 1987. Katrina hit in 2005 and he and his family relocated. Even though he & his family relocated in Belle Chasse, he refused to allow his home to continue to rot away. Since his children were grown & out the house and no one planned on living there again, he thought of a way he could repair the building and also keep it completely self-sustainable (financially) - by opening it up to the public. He sandblasted all the wood (first 2 levels were submerged) & made major adjustments to meet the requirements of a public hotel. In 2007 Mackey opened the LeMatidora Inn [named after his children: (Le), Malcolm (Ma), Timmy (Ti) + Dora (Dora)] to the public and in 2012 his daughter, Dora, purchased it and is still the current owner today.

Overall

I enjoyed the fact that this place has stuff to do.. you don’t see that to often around these parts. For the past 3.5 years of my life I have to catch a helicopter out of PHI helipad every month so the night before I always stay at a local hotel. I never even knew about this place until last month when a fellow co-worker filled me in on this “awesome place”. I enjoyed the fact that this place had a gym, you don’t see that to many places in those parts. They also had a really cool bar that wrapped around the kitchen where you could drink and also watch them make your dinner. The entire lobby is made out of salvaged wood, which really gives it a rustic vibe. I do woodwork and carpentry in my spare time so I noticed (and appreciated) the woodwork in the lobby right away. I found out that the original owner built the entire 4 story building with only him and the help of just a couple of his buddies. When you see how big this place is & how nice it is, your realize how amazing that was and what an astounding accomplishment it must’ve been for him. Besides that, it’s a really cool place to hang out (I was very surprised that more locals didn’t hang out there just to do something for fun). I shot some pool, played darts, ate dinner, and hung out in the lobby with a couple other guys; we drank beer and caught the football game. Two thumbs up on the dinner. The rooms are super nice, unique, & CLEAN. I wish someone would’ve informed me about this place 4 years ago when I first started working down there.

Overall

My husband & I stayed at LeMatidora Inn for a weekend while we were down in the Port Sulphur, LA area. Our room was beautiful, clean, & very spacious. We really enjoyed our balcony; it was set up with lounging furniture & hammocks. They offered a complimentary breakfast that was served on a breakfast buffet, table, & chairs that were antique (authentic European from the Victorian era- all hand-carved wood) - it was absolutely stunning! The owner was so kind & so accommodating; she showed us around the property & let us pick all the fruit we wanted & let us keep it for free! They had all sorts of fruit & vegetable trees: apple, date, fig, pecan, avocado, olive, banana, grape vines, & every citrus fruit tree (orange, kumquat, satsuma, lemon, lime, etc.) You just don't get that kind of one on one attention or special treatment anywhere else you go. You can tell that the owner loves what she does & that she genuinely values her customers; she goes that extra mile to show them that they are appreciated. The owner cooked for all of us who were staying at the hotel (it was delicious), including several people staying there from Chicago, IL. Afterwards, we all had cocktails & the men shot pool & the ladies played poker. It was definitely one of the most fun-filled nights I've had in a long time. The entire hotel staff was very nice & accommodating & the guests were extremely friendly as well. Everyone is so engaged & so friendly that it makes you very friendly, too. It feels like a giant home; everyone treats you like family (staff & other guests), everyone eats together, everyone drinks together, everyone is nice & respectful. My husband & I made friends that we still talk to, to this day. We had an amazing time & I never thought I could have that much fun at a hotel. I also bought some candles from the gift shop & some of my favorites were chocolate birthday cake, lemon sugar cookie, vanilla lace, wedding cake, & buttercream- they were great! I HIGHLY recommend this place!!!

Overall
Family atmosphere, great family vacation spot, lots to do, absolutely loved it- will be going back s

My husband usually travels by himself but this time was one of those rare occasions that I decided to pack up the entire family and tag along because it was just a weekend thing. We didn't plan on this being a big fun-filled vacation, but it very well turned out that way. We stayed in the Presidential Suite, aka the Lincoln Suite. It was very nice; 2 bedrooms with full-sized beds & 2 side rooms, “lofts” (which our kids really got a kick out of), dining, living, Jacuzzi tub, walk-in closet, etc. The lofts each had a twin bed, tv, microwave, fridge, etc. (everything the big rooms had). Our kids were thrilled that they each got their own room & everything else that goes in it. My biggest thrill was the Jacuzzi tub in our bathroom- My husband & I used it every night! I also loved the fact that I could sit down & eat with my family at the dinner table in our room, snuggle up with my hubby on the couch, or just hang out with my kids and the 3 dogs in our big suite- it was comfortable &n VERY spacious. The kids swam themselves into a coma every day that we were there (I didn’t mind) & they also got a kick out of the parrots, too. For lunch we used the BBQ pit by the pool & ate out on the pool patio. I found our stay to be convenient due to the fact that they have a laundry mat, vending machines, & a big fully-stocked kitchen. Every evening (after my kids FINALLY got out the pool) & my husband arrived from work, we would make dinner together in the kitchen & then we would all sit down together in the dining room & eat. After dinner we had "family time" with the kids; we played at the gaming center (it’s a game table with an armoire that has many different board games, cards, poker, Uno, jenga, Yahtzee, etc.). And, our last night there we all watched a movie on the big screen tv in the lounge. LeMatidora Inn is definitely a family vacation spot. I was blown away by how friendly everyone was and how nice everything was. If you have kids & are taking them to the Buras/Port Sulphur area, I highly recommend staying there. My entire family had a blast & my kids didn’t get bored one time. I haven’t stayed anywhere else in that area but I can’t imagine it getting any better than that. I believe in this place so much. I already got the first phone call from a relative (that I informed about this place) thanking me so much for recommending it. It makes me feel good to know that my experiences help you guys, good or bad. *** TIP: on here it says 30482 Highway 11, Buras, LA 70041 but it’s WRONG. The correct address is 30482 Highway 11, Port Sulphur, LA 70083. I know because I had to call the front desk on the way there several times because for some reason the GPS took us over the bridge.

Overall

My friends and I always travel down to Grand Isle every year for the tarpon rodeo; it’s a big deal & we never miss it. The few hotels we stayed at every year were all booked up and the only thing left (that was close) was LeMatidora Inn. We were very skeptical about what kind of place it was because we didn’t know a thing about it. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised because of how nice it was, and also because we never knew it existed in all the years traveling in the area. We probably wouldn’t have ever known about it, and, even if we did know about it - we still wouldn’t have thought about trying it (just because we have our regular hotels that we frequent every year). But, it was definitely to our advantage that we ended up staying there. We saw several groups whom we’d met in the previous years at the inn and ended up hanging and partying with them. The manager probably thought we were absolutely nuts but she was just as sweet as she could be anyway. It’s quite a nice place; very elegant, clean, comfortable. Definitely has the southern charm and style; exquisite antiques & stunning woodwork throughout the entire facility. We stayed in the penthouse suite which was exceptional, but I also saw several other of the guys’ rooms and they’re all extremely nice. The porches were useful because the columns had electrical outlets on them so we got to charge our boats for the next morning. The staff was nice, the rooms were clean, and they served dinner for us every night. Definitely will be going back next year.

If you have kids, I highly recommend staying at LeMatidora Inn. My entire family had a blast & my kids didn’t want to leave!!

Hi my name is Candice Marshall. I was recently in Port sulphur for a family reunion & we stayed at the Lematidora inn. My husband and I were hesitant to stay but ended up staying because it got rave reviews it got online. First off, let me just say, “wow, the opinions expressed online are correct; this place is a hidden gem”. It really is a hidden treasure (you'll understand when you go there). We have the pickiest kids that find a way to get bored in whatever they’re doing but that wasn’t the case with them [or us] when we stayed at LeMatidora. My husband and I drank beer, shot pool, and went swimming with the kids (the kids swam the entire time). The hotel even has parrots located right next to the pool that talk to you! It was so much fun. So much fun in fact that our kids put up the biggest fight & they refused to get out so we just let them stay in there until they couldn’t paddle anymore (they’re old enough to stay in there as long as they want - 11 & 13). While my kids swam themselves into a coma, my husband worked out at the gym, I did my family’s laundry at the laundry mat, & then we both cooked dinner for us & our children in one of the biggest/nicest kitchens I’d ever seen. This thing was huge; 3 sinks, 60 cabinets, counter space that literally goes on for miles, etc. You could throw a party in just the kitchen, let alone the whole building! The kids finally got out the pool at around 5:30pm and we all sat down in the dining room & ate. After dinner we went to the gaming center (it’s a table with an armoire that has 10 different board games, cards, poker, yatzi, Uno, jinga, etc. & we played jinga for about an hour & then we all watched a movie in the lounge. The entertainment value that LeMatidora Inn strives to keep is phenomenal & another thing that was spectacular was our room! We stayed in the Presidential Suite, aka the Lincoln Suite. It was very spacious; 2 bedrooms with King beds & 2 side rooms, “lofts”, which our kids really got a kick out of. The lofts each had a twin bed, tv, microwave, fridge, etc. but they were small so our kids felt like a princess & a prince because they each got their own room & everything else that goes in it. Matilda, my 13 yr. old daughter, said, “mom, this room was made for me! It’s like they knew that me & Zack were coming here so they added these 2 rooms!” lol. All in all it’s definitely a family vacation spot. If you have kids & are taking them to the Buras/Port Sulphur area, I highly recommend staying at LeMatidora Inn. My entire family had a blast & my kids didn’t get bored one time. I haven’t stayed anywhere else in that area but I can’t imagine it getting any better than that. *** TIP: on here it says 30482 Highway 11, Buras, LA 70041 but its WRONG. We checked in on Friday & it looked crowded (I guess for the weekend crowd). Most of the people stayed out back by the pool patio - listening to music, barbecuing, swimming, drinking, and just having a really good time but it wasn’t until the second (and our last) night there that we joined in. We met several people from Chicago & ended up hanging with them. We all ate dinner at the bar around 7:30pm & it was fantastic then had cocktails afterwards. After dinner, my husband shot pool with a couple of the guys from Chicago, & I visited with the guys’ wives. The ladies & I played poker & then after everyone in the lobby played quarter bounce. We had an amazing time & you have to ask yourself, how much fun could a person really have at any ordinary hotel? Well this is no ordinary hotel, I assure you. It feels like a giant home; everyone there treats you like family, there weren’t any strict rules, & the entire hotel got tighter & played quarter bounce- I’ve never seen that done before! I HIGHLY recommend this place & you can ask my husband, I never recommend ANY place! PS: Bought some candles {chocolate birthday cake, lemon sugar cookie, vanilla lace, wedding cake, & buttercream} for our daughters at the gift shops & we all loved them so much! Whenever anyone walks in & a candle is burning they say “Oh ms. Joyce, what are you baking now, it smells heavenly!” Every time- never fails.

I stayed at the le matidora and thought it was wonderful. The hotel is furnished with beautiful antiques which I thought were pretty eye catching. The front desk was super friendly and more than helpful. They even allow pets which I thought was great because I like to take my pup on vacations with me, what more could I ask for. overall my stay was comfortable and I look forward to staying here again.
