Good food, service not so much...



We've been going here for several years, usually once or twice a month, and the only thing I ever had that I was unimpressed with was the breaded walleye, which was kind of dismal. Everything else has ranged from very good to outstanding. But the waitstaff is often clueless and clumsy. I'm told that the owner is a real @$$hole to his waitstaff so this stands to reason. We seldom see a waitress for more than a couple of visits so the talent pool is pretty poor. They tend to be slow, they will often "forget" to bring you your soup or salad until it's time to bring your entree, getting drinks refilled can be iffy. My pet peeve is when you order something from the Italian menu they want to know what your 2 sides will be, as if once I have a huge plate of veal parm with pasta and a salad I'm going to want a potato and a veggie to go with it. It's just basic lack of skill and we would go much more often if not for the deficient waitstaff.

When we first started going to the sunrise to eat the food was just like your home town diner. It was good but NOT great. Pricing was reasonable. The longer we went the worse the food became. The waitresses would offer explanations that the "kitchen staff had no idea what they were doing". We ask if they were new and was told NO, just confused.

We kept going becasue the staff in general was great, nice and friendly and had that home town feel to it. Feb this year I got food posioning, after having eaten dinner there, and was sure they were the reason. The only thing I had eaten that day, so needless to say, after a phone call to tell them what had happened, we boycotted it for a while. After 5-6 months we decided to try it again. Again, it was just ok. Breakfast became something we chose NOT to continue to order as it was always terrible. Someone needs to teach the cook/cooks how to cook scrambled eggs!

Giving this facility a THREE star referal is tough, but it's not ALL bad. I think perhaps they just need more training in the kitchen, or maybe they just need to CARE a bit more about what the food they are serving looks like before it leaves the kitchen.



We still eat there ocassionaly, and only IF they are not busy.

the food and service is exceptional , the prices are very fair for what you get. I really like the soups and stir fry's
