Although the massage and scrub I received at Spa Newbury were okay, the customer service there is AWFUL. I purchased packages through groupon and the owner was short with me, wouldn't take a booking for me and 3 friends, and finally cancelled 2 of my certificates without my knowledge. She was incredibly rude both on the phone and in-person on the day of our service. I also agree with other reviewers that the tip pushing is inappropriate. Maybe the owner treats full paying customers with respect, but if you are considering buying a groupon package. . .DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bought a Groupon for a couples spa day. There was some sort of mix-up regarding the date of the appointment; I had thought I was scheduling for the following Wednesday. When I read the email from the Spa and became aware of the mix-up in dates, I sent an email letting them know what happened and asking for them to cancel and re-schedule my appointment for the following week. This was 45 hours before the scheduled appointment. The owner, Selena, refused and said that I would still have to pay for the spa day, even though I could not use it. She insisted she had told me this was a 'one time, non-changeable' reservation (she had not), and the only option she gave me was trying to find 2 people to fill our spots. I could not believe what was happening: she had mixed up the appointment, and she was trying to force me to pay for a spa day I could not use. However, I have to say that Groupon was great about the matter: I called to tell them what had happened, and the customer service representative was really nice and instantly refunded my money. Lesson: give business to Groupon, not Salon Newbury.

The reviews for this place are all over the place but I will say that our experience was excellent. I have some very specific allergies and the staff were very attentive to this and very knowledgeable. Their expertise was reaffirmed with the execution. Perfect massages and facials. We were seen early. Everyone was very nice from the front desk to our masseuses. The spa was really pretty. Very charming. I will go back just over the attention to my allergies alone. They really do pay attention to the details and that makes all the difference to me in the world.

This spa should be commended for their great service and business practices. In my travels I have visited many spas and this was one of the better/best ones. My wife wants my back smooth and my stress gone when I return from long business trips. So, I had it all at Spa Newbury. Back wax, massage, pedicure, manicure and mens facial. The wax was the fastest, least painful and cleanest I have ever had. I have been a couple times to Newbury Street and this was one of the larger spas I have seen there too. The women were not young models but real people that could press hard and give a great deep tissue. It was a weekend holiday that was very busy and sold-out yet everything was still top-notch. My only con and the reason I am writing this posting here is because there was one lady ahead of me who tried to change her appointment and offered the spa more money to do so. She had some type of promotion but wanted something different. She was very mean to the staff but they held their composure and were pure professionals. She was told that it would interfere with other client appointments (I believe they were mine) so they could not accommodate such a last minute change. I thought for a second the spa would do it especially because she was behaving badly, offering them money for the ""inconvenience"" and threatening a bad review if she did not. I was relieved when the they did not cater to that bratty behavior. I felt really good about this spa when I left. My service was phenomenal and they did not wrongly ""sell-out"" my appointments to another like many spas would for the extra dough. They took me five minutes early instead of making me wait up to an hour like some could during ""peak"" times. While it is a bad economy this place deserves extra kudos for keeping good business practices in honoring their appointments and morals.

This spa seems to have it all. The reception staff were incredibly warm and gracious. My services (massage and facial) were perfect. It is beautiful. I was seen on time and there were plenty of refreshments. The windows overlooking Newbury Street with the antique furniture might have been my favorite of all. Truly great.

This was a great find on Newbury street amongst what feels like hundreds of salons and spas. I found this spa as a walk-in customer. They were able to fit me in and I had the best massage of my life. When I walked in my feet were killing me from walking around so much so I honestly could not have cared how good the service was as long as I receive one. I have returned several times for facials, had a few more massage appointments and purchased a gift certificate for a professional colleague. All were equally good experiences. The desk staff are always nice and welcoming. The spa itself is very charming and it transforms me back a couple hundred years and makes me think what it was like to live there in the 1800s or whenever Newbury Street was built. I have tried a couple different therapists and each one seems to be as good as the next. I would go here more often if getting into town was not so difficult.
Mirella at Spa Newbury is GREAT! A 5 out of 5! I saw Holly and she was so nice and friendly and made me feel great! plus my face has never looked better! Good prices too!

If I could afford to come every day I would, without a moments hesitation.
