The North End used to be my 'hood. For senior year of college, I seemed to seamlessly survive on cannoilis and pizza (and beer and adderall, obv), and all too often forgot to get a ""proper meal"" in. Now that I'm a touch older, I enjoy marathon dinners with wine by the bottle. And alas, little spots like Assaggio are even more appealing. Went here for dinner with a couple girlfriends. Our service was impeccable. At a place like this, where the server must ""call"" for their food to the chef (there's no computer system), it really becomes impressive how they time things, keep an eye on tables, and keep drinks full. Our server did all of this fabulously. For an app, we had the hot cherry peppers stuffed with prosciutto. WOW. Those things were more delicious than I ever expected, and I LOVE both hot peppers and prosciutto, so the bar was high. These things delivered, let me tell ya. We also split a Caesar salad that was classic and delicious--no craziness like anchovies or anything, though I'm sure they'd honor such a request--just a really good salad. For dinner, I allowed myself to have the guilty pleasure I often do not order out (especially at non-Italian places because what's the point?); RAVIOLI. Raviolis have basically no nutritional value whatsoever. Pasta? Bad for you? Cheese? Also bad for you. Sometimes there's some spinach or meat or if you're fancyschmancy some lobstah in there, but the result is the same. These are pasta-cheese dumplings that no diet could allow. Luckily, I'm not allowed to diet because I would go batsh!t crazy, and I allow myself things like this sometimes. Raviolis are my love. Assaggio, again, did not disappoint. In recent developments since our dinner, my friend applied for a job and is now waiting tables at Assaggio. It makes me happy to report that they treat their employees really well, and that she delivered some lasagna to my house post-work the other night. Lasagna, also, very very good. Not to most well-known North End spot, but one worth checking out for sure.
