Hi there , we had an awesome experince…

Hi there , we had an awesome experince , with the kind staff !!!!!!!!! we went there more than once , and found our lil girl sophie ,a 1 yr old border terrier ,a very happy healthy pet , the staff was more than helpful ,the girls behond the desk answered all our questions, and the vet tech check our lil puppy ,shes in excellent health !!! Thank you ;)

Avoid this shelter!

Avoid this shelter! I feel sorry for the animals being sheltered here if they treat them the same way they treat people. Our experience there was nothing short of unprofessional, disrespectful, and rude. The office staff overall is extremely disorganized and they have no way of keeping track of the customers coming in, especially after 2pm. While most of the customers who write bad reviews are probably those that weren't approved, we actually were. We filled out all of the paperwork and was ready to go through the adoption process. We were charged a total of $325 for adoption! We were flabbergasted and questioned the cost. Pam, who seems crazy and rude, said she had explained everything to us and so did her staff, although they had not. Next thing we know, the "Director" named "Susan" or "Susie" comes out and rudely asks what's the problem. She then went off about how her staff explained everything fully and that we were required to pay. Before we could say anything, she yelled at us that she was canceling our adoption agreement and were told to leave! Her last words were "the dog is better off with us then with you anyway." We had never been so shocked, disappointed, angry, disrespected, or humiliated before at being treated this way. This was by far one of the worst experiences we have ever had - and we've adopted two other dogs before from different shelters. We just hope that Pam and Susan/Susie treat their animals better than they treat people!

Very bad experience from rude staff…

Very bad experience from rude staff member. We had a signed contract from TCHS stating that the pet must be returned to the facility if the pet cannot be kept for any reason and that the pet will always be the property of TCHS. I was returning an adopted cat that could no longer be kept by an elderly family member. The woman at the front desk REFUSED to accept the cat and proceeded to lay a guilt trip on me!! I had to take the cat to Broward County Humane Society which is not a no-kill facility. BEFORE ADOPTING, BE AWARE THAT YOUR CONTRACT IS NOT HONORED BY TCHS!!!! In addition, cleanliness is not a high priority at this facility.

What an awful place.

What an awful place.

I did community service hours for this organization. Originally they were for some trouble I got into to have my charge dropped as first time offender (in college).

I went to get a notarized signature. I called and words can not even begin to explain the rudeness of these people. Not a single person I encountered there was pleasant and they were the nastiest group of people.

The front desk lady Pam was just a disgusting person, Virginia an apparent convict was screaming over me trying to get a notary on the hours I did. She was screaming in front of clients.

The miserable lives these people must have is apparent as they bring these attitude to the work place.

If you are looking to adopt a pet, please go to http://humanebroward.com. They are cheaper and provide so many more services for your future family member.

Awful Awful people and I am glad I am not the only one who is aware of this behavior.

I am quite surprised by the negative…

I am quite surprised by the negative reviews, and honestly can say that I have had nothing but pleasant experiences at Tri County. My husband and I began volunteering there in October 2011, and over the course of several months, we fell in love with an older dog who we adopted in May. The staff helped us every step through the adoption process, and worked with us despite some of our restrictions. They care extensively for each and every animal that walks through their doors, and want to make sure that they go to the right forever home.

As for the pricing, the reason the costs are higher than a typical shelter is because they are a no kill shelter. If the animals are ill or hurt, they put them through the proper medical treatment, rather than put them down. All medical treatments have a price tag, and it's this extra cost that gets translated to the adopters. Personally, I was happy to pay the price knowing that they cared for my dog and all the other homeless animals the way they do, rather than needlessly put them down.

I highly recommend adopting from this shelter and supporting the no kill mission.

There are many people who have written…

There are many people who have written some negative reviews regarding how Tri-County has treated them. Yes, the staff, volunteers, or administrative people can at times be short sometimes rude, but they always have the best interest of the animals as their utmost priority. So if your feelings were hurt, don't take it personally because these wonderful people are the voices for the abused, neglected, injured, abandoned, rejected, etc., animals that make it into this facility that is by far over crowded and if you've have ever taken a tour of the place you will see that the kennels are clean and well taken care of. Remember, it is at the hands of us humans that these babies are in this predicament and if you don't agree with me on that then maybe you should rethink your adoption because it is a lifetime commitment (the pets' lifetime). These babies rely on us 200%, granted they can eat and poop on their own, some can even groom themselves, but they can't eat if we don't feed them and they need to be walked to do their "business", or we need to keep the litter box clean, everything they need to live has to be supplied by us humans because we choose to domesticate them. Seems so simple. So why are so many here in a shelter? I applaud everyone at Tri-County.

So, for you that have not gotten a call-back from someone from Tri-County because you want to volunteer, did you ever think that they are so busy taking care of the animals that they don't have time to return your call? Why don't you get out of the house and go there, walk the grounds, visit the cat room, read the tombstones/markers at the pet cemetery, talk to the volunteers walking the dogs, after a few visits, then go in and ask about volunteering, I'm sure they'd love to have you.

If you were given a hard time about adopting, put yourself if their shoes. Would would you give a precious little puppy or kitten to? Wouldn't you want to make sure they home they were going to was a good permanent home? Try some volunteer time, and you will see what they see. This place has come a long way and if you have ever seen it before - you will know. I have known and volunteered for Tri-County and Jeanette Christo since before she took over Boca Rio Humane Society (1999). It wasn't until I've volunteered that I really found my calling in the animal world and have become a pet parent of 8 furry babies, both cats and dogs. Before my volunteering for Jeanette, I can now say that I wasn't a good pet owner before, since then, I am all about the pet and their best interest.

So, I can say that I have no compassion for you humans who get their feelings hurt or denied adoption at Tri-County and I only wish for all the shelters to be as stringent across the globe. Imagine that!

What I'm saying is: before you talk - Walk a mile in their shoes......

The woman at the front desk should…

The woman at the front desk should definitely not be working in a place like this. She hates animals and those who try to help them. I found a beautiful Persian stray cat and took it here because I could not take it in and I did not want to see it die as it seemed like a house cat that had been abandoned for quiet some time. The lady at the front desk refused to take her and said they were full which I understood but then went on to insult me saying I should not have tried to save her and I should have left her to roam the streets and die. I am so confused how a woman so heartless can work here?

She also said if I tried to leave the adorable kitten there that she would have me arrested. I am appalled!

Beware of this shelter!

Beware of this shelter! They process all your paperwork stating "no refunds" prior to disclosing that the animal is chronically ill and handing you the animal with the medication. I adopted a kitten that was four months old three weeks ago. They made me sign everything and ran my credit card for $140.00 in fees to adopt him. An hour later, they brought him out with eye medication and a medical record that ran for two pages of problems he has had since April 2011. I have been giving him medication in his eye on a daily basis to no avail and he is still in pain and sick. They make a point of telling you, you must return the animal to them as they still retain ownership. I sadly brought him back today as I could not afford daily medication. I feel they were not honest and did not disclose his medical problems which have been rampant since April 2011. I adopted him n August 10th. This has caused me great heartache. When I returned him, everyone there knew his name and recognized him which was eerily creepy and made me feel like he has been returned before. Because he is so cute, they keep adopting him out and collecting $140 each time. He was already neutered and had his shots but they said I would have to pay for them as they were "included in the adoption process." How many people have paid for his spaying and shots by now? I feel he is a money maker for them and I was tricked into signing the contract without seeing his medical records and problems. I would be very careful with this agency as I feel like they were not honest with me. I live on a fixed income and was looking for a companion animal. What I received was a very sick animal who required daily medication and daily care for his illness. I have had a cat before who was never sick as a kitten. This kitten would require extensive veterinary care that is very costly. I feel the shelter should make sure the animal is healthy when it is offered for adoption and not use the cute sick animals as money makers. It is disgraceful!

WORST ANIMAL SHELTER EVER

I went to visit a kitten for adoption this past Saturday...they would not even let me hold him until "my applciatin was approved". I provided all the inforamtion they requested. My current cat is 2 months past due on his shots. Keep in mind he is only 1 yr & 3 mo. old. After several emails & phone calls PLEADING with them to “work with me” on attempting to adopt a kitten…I was told repeatedly...that they would still would not hold the kitty, quote “if someone comes in & is approved they can adopt him” When I asked how much the adoption was…[with the intent of getting the fees taken care of ahead of time]…I was informed that it will cost me upwards of $200+ to adopt him. First they told me the adoption fee was $50, then they called back & told me it was $75 ("due to the vet bills", they said) {$75 adoption fee + $145 for neutering [and they won’t allow you to take the animal to your own vet] + a chip}

This is SHAMEFUL....SHAMEFUL...SHAMEFULL

I adopted my cat from the Ft. Lauderdale Humane Society. He was neutered, chipped & had his first two rounds of shots for $85.00 this also included medication & vet fees because when I adopted him he had a small respiratory infection. In a time when so many animals are in need of good homes that “this privately owned & operated” shelter would charge these types of fees is OUTRAGEOUS!!

Let me be clear....their obvious goal is….$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. And this starts with the head of the Board of Directors Jeannette Christos, which from what I’ve read….is some shady character!

Horrible Nasty Place

I have been to and volunteered at many shelters and this is the worst of the worst. The management is completely uncaring and incompetent. The animal staff are ex convicts routinely cursing, smoking, and berating would be adopters. This place needs to be shut down so the animals have a chance to go somewhere else. Do not support this inhumane shelter.
