Emergency Care
Although night and weekend eye emergencies are handled in the hospital emergency department, some less urgent problems can wait until clinic hours to be seen. If you are experiencing foreign body sensation, eye pain, light sensitivity, recent flashes and floaters, or sudden loss of vision, we can frequently work in urgent cases during regular hours.

Glaucoma
The goal of glaucoma treatment is to lower the pressure inside your eye (intraocular pressure). Depending on your situation, options may include observation, eyedrops, laser treatment, or surgery.
Ophthalmology
Dr. Drysdale has served as President of the Southwestern Virginia Medical Society and is currently a member of the Medical Society of Virginia, the American Medical Association, the Virginia Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is widely known in the profession for instrument design, but does not hold patents, rather donating his instrument designs with gratitude for his patients and profession. In his spare time, he likes golf, reading and travel. Dr. Drysdale is married with ﬁve grown children and lives in Blacksburg.
Cataracts
Sometimes the blurred vision is overlooked and the cataract neglected, whether due to fear of surgery, financial reasons, or just getting used to it. In some cases, a cataract progresses so slowly that the associated blurred vision does not become noticeable until it is far advanced. Such advanced cataracts are typically handled by removal and replacement with a "standard" lens implant, hoping to restore vision with glasses similar to what was used before the cataract developed.
Cataract Surgery
His interests include advanced technology cataract surgery, lens implantation, instrument design, and outreach to underserved populations. He enjoys traveling to global meetings and is active in national professional organizations. He especially enjoys seeing happy post-op patients.
