I have known Hooptie Ride for years, as a reliable transportation service around Blacksburg, especially during football game weekends when traffic is a mess, and leaving the driving to others is a good idea. This weekend, I had the opportunity to try the Hooptie for something else. A large group of family and friends were in town to celebrate a couple of new 21 year olds. In what is becoming a tradition, we wanted to spend an afternoon visiting local wineries and microbreweries, yet do it in a safe and responsible way. How better than to use the Hooptie for this? Our driver, Ray met us for pick up right on time, confirmed our itinerary, helped load our group of 14 onto our van, off we went. Long story short, our day could not have been better. Ray was friendly, helpful, and most importantly, a safe driver. Safety is always important for a transportation service, and it became more of a challenge, as Ray got us to all of our stops during a late season snow storm. As anyone who has driven a van knows, they can feel the effects of any adverse weather and road conditions. We felt none of it. To sum up our experience, I have to say it was truly 5 Star service. To all the folks at Hooptie Ride, and especially to our driver, Ray, THANKS FOR A JOB WELL DONE!

My daughter and I just had the worst experience we have ever had with any transportation company we have ever used!! I wish they had the option of a negative number of stars to give this company.

The owner of Hooptie Ride, Kenneth Jones, definitely needs to revisit his hiring practices and possibly invest in some serious customer service training for the persons that are tasked with answering their phones and scheduling their pick ups. Some liability training would not hurt either.

For the most part the drivers I have encountered have been friendly, personable and clean. But the "dispatcher and apparently his wife, who drives for them and does their marketing, definitely a different story.

I have seen no evidence that they are wheelchair accessible. I have physical disabilities and they do "sometimes" have a step stool available to help get in and out of the larger vans, but not always. They discriminated against my daughter and I because my daughters emotional support animal was dying and we needed to get her to the Vet School at Tech. They would not pick us up!! She ended up dying from kidney failure!

There is nothing on any of their advertisements, website or social media pages that state they do not allow pets. And definitely nothing that says they do not allow them because one of the drivers has allergies, and yet he has stated on several occasions that he has a dog??

Twice I have depended on Hooptie and both times I was kind of let down. The first time was to take me from my apartment to the Park and Ride in Christiansburg so that I could catch my bus home. It was a 3:00am drive. So I called the night before to make sure they would run that late and schedule the pick up. I was told to call the night of. I did. We schedule a time....but they never even showed up. I called and called and nothing. I had about 15 minutes before my bus would pull out. Luckily my roommate was willing to take me and speed.
I have used Uber and text a cab since that night with no hitches. Until today. Btransit doesn't run on Sundays in The summer. So my co-worker told me to call hooptie because employees at our establishment recieved a discount. I called and got a ton of flack after asking about the discount. The guy was gruff and short. And the ride home from work was rough. I asked how much I owed and he asked me to answer that question...it was really weird. I think I'm done with hooptie. I'll stick with the uber drivers with candy, smiles and nice conversation.

Every time I've EVER used Hooptie Ride it has been an excellent experience They have always been thorough even if its a busy VT day. I used them last night and they went out of their way, on a busy college town bar scene night, to make sure I was taken care of. Even though, I had to cancel the first time and didn't know where i was and then the driver called me again because he still had my number, to make sure I got home OK. They get a bad rap sometimes because they have to handle Blacksburg as well as the surrounding areas of the NRV to accommodate where people are going. They really put the effort in, but it seems lost on our own agenda sometimes because for example, last night people were yelling, I mean YELLING at my driver about taking too long and how he wasn't going to get a tip. But that was because he scooped me up to take me along with them because I was going the same direction as them. He communicated well with everyone and kept his cool of course to explain his method (and hes also being directed by a dispatcher) but this isn't the first time I've seen people take their problems (needing a ride) out on a Hooptie driver. Give them the respect they deserve!
