"If you need a new stylist, you have to go to Betsy or one of her team at Capelli!" I have baby fine, thin hair and until I meet Betsy 15+ years ago, it was always a dreaded thing to get a haircut...I never knew how it would turn out. Then a friend referred me to Betsy, the rest is history! Somehow she magically, CONSISTENTLY cuts my hair just right and makes me look like I have 100% thicker hair! Not with product or a bunch of spray just the cut itself. Everyone has a stylist that gets it right most of the time but not once have I ever not had the cut exactly like I wanted. Over these years people have stopped me in various places and asked “who cuts your hair?”, then next time I’ll ask Betsy if someone from wherever had come in, the answer is always yes and I can honestly say, each of them are still her clients! I would recommend them to anyone! Also, after your first appointment or two and you have an idea of how much time your appointment will take, you can plan on that timeframe each time with enough confidence to even book a lunch break appointment and be back to the office on time! They always run on-time; again, this is based on 15 years experience! I know most salons have very comfortable and crowded waiting areas because they are always running late. One last important fact that I think makes them so excellent is when you make an appointment with someone, you are with them from beginning to end! This allows them to see your style when you arrive and begin dialogue about your desired cut, color, and general expectations. This discussion continues because your stylist will then be the one who does your shampoo. However, there have been times when a color or perm timer expires and someone else shampoos, but that’s the exception. I appreciate this personal touch because now they know firsthand how your hair responds. Meeting a stylist the first time with a wet, toweled hair…well doesn’t make much sense as they don’t know my “normal” and then I have about 2-3 minutes while they comb my wet hair to tell them what I want, ask their opinion, ask for suggestions, etc. Now is where in the past, the prayer would begin!:) Pray they get it right or at least close because my baby fine hair also grows really slow and I’m going to have to live with that 2-3 minute discussion for about 2-2 ½ months! Personal, timely, reasonably priced, consistent service is what sets this salon and its team apart. Well, I’ve shared my opinion, and hopefully for your next appointment you will remember Capelli and give them a try. Fair warning though, you’ll be hooked, they are out to spoil you and they will!

Toya Long has been taking care of my hair for the past five years. I followed her from her old salon to True Colors, and even though I relocated from Nashville, every time I go back to Birmingham, I make an appointment with her. I could be considered a "difficult" customer- I never know what I want and I get anxious if I have to wait or the appointment runs too long. But Toya is the definition of professional, never snippy or short with me. She's very good at reading people and if you don't want to talk, you don't even have to say so. She won't constantly blab or pry and make things unbearable and awkward like some stylists. But if you *do* want to talk, you can! Toya is intelligent and sociable, and she is TALENTED. Even with very little direction, (I literally sit in the chair and just say, "Make it look pretty!") she will come up with a style you will love. My hair always gets tons of compliments, she never cuts it too short, it's never weighted down or gummy with too much product. She remembers your personal style and sticks to what she knows you will like, or she'll suggest something new that will look great. She suggests products that work for your hair, but she won't obnoxiously pressure you into buying them. She can do any kind of hair for any occasion, and she also does eyebrows. Her schedule is flexible and convenient- you can book appointments online, and she takes any kind of payment. She rarely, if ever, overbooks and can multi-task like you would not believe. True Colors Salon itself is in an upscale neighborhood, but not too far off, with adequate parking. They offer complimentary refreshments- soda, snack crackers, and cookies, and a flat-screen tv for you to watch under the dryer. My only complaint is that she hasn't cloned herself or moved to Nashville!
First of all every story has two sides. We pride ourselves in thorough consultations, which did happen once this client arrived and received with her hair stylist Dona(owner). Joelle Salon is the second Salon for Dona, she has been doing business for 25 years and we have never had a complaint. We always ensure our clients are happy and confident before they leave the doors of the salon. Because our clients deserve the best they will always receive the best! This client client was ecstatic once her hair was complete. Dona always steps back to ask the client to review the hair color/style from all angles. The client expressed how much she liked it and did mention is was blond, which she did request. At that moment she could have mentioned her dissatisfaction so action could have been done to correct her unhappiness. The client was quoted on our pricing over the phone, which was told prices do vary depending on the length and texture of the hair. It is specified on our website and also in house Menu of Services that our prices are such amount and up. This clients total charge for our records was for $300 for all over color, full foil, and cut/style. The client was not charged for the deep conditioner due to damage/condition of the her hair prior to her services, so the deep conditioner was complimentary. Our reputation of being high end is based on professionalism, up most talent and skill, and receiving the best overall experience. We are obviously disappointed with this reaction, but we again pride ourselves on each clients satisfaction!!!
