H B&G

This is the place to go if you want a nice fine-dining experience. The steaks, along with most items on the menu, are terrific. The service staff was exceptional. The price was about what I expected for an upscale 'straunt.

Outstanding!

This is a top notch restaurant with a great menu and wine list. Our party of four each tried a different appetizer and entree and everything was great. Service was great too. We were split two and two on desserts with thumbs up on the creme brulee and ice cream with Maker's Mark but thumbs down on the chocolate bread pudding and the chocolate cake.

We dropped $400 (had two bottles of a nice French wine) with no regrets.

We will be going back!

I would not know because-

My son chose Highland's Bar and Grill for his birthday based on the rave reviews and it's place in the 1000 Places to See book. I called to be sure that both the restaurant and the restrooms were accessible. After an affirmative reply I made reservations on-line through the open table reservation site via Highlands site. On the day of my son's birthday, July 15th, I received a call from Mark asking about the comment that I had added to our reservation about the need to ""park"" my husband's scooter while we ate. My husband has Multiple Sclerosis and must use a scooter for mobility. Mark informed me that they had no place to park the scooter, even the sidewalk out front was too narrow and we could not park it there! He said he would put the scooter back in the car for us. When I asked what if my husband had to use the ""facilities"" he told me they could go get the scooter, but the restroom was not accessible and he would have to go their sister restaurant next door if needed. I was furious. If they had told me that when I called we would never had planned to go to their establishment but as they said it was accessible we made our plans with anticipation of a fantastic meal. Mark did apologize and assure me that wanted us to come, but obviously they do not want people with accessibility issues at their place. As it was we had to scramble for a nice back up. Daniel George was happy to have our business and to accommodate our needs. I do not think I was the first to call and ask about accessibility and I doubt I will be their last. My husband wanted us to go without him but that was not an option and I would not want to give 2 cents to a place that can not accommodate all of our family. Shame on you at Highlands Bar and Grill, you made a grown woman cry on her son's birthday, from frustration, anger and disappointment. May you ""walk"" a mile in someone else shoes one day, maybe then you will be more understanding.

Restaurants - Highlands Bar and Grill

Not your usual fare. Menu changes often and uses local produce and ingredients in unusual combinations. Service is outstanding. Call ahead to find out when the Crab Cakes are on the menu...not to be missed!

A Great Night Out

For some reason, I had always wanted to go to this bistro. Mrs. Flanders, being penny-wise, said ?no,? it was too pricey. Well, life is too short so we agreed to go on my birthday, the 29th of the month! I might add, there?s a certain child-like excitement about one?s birthday. Mrs. Flanders started a month out to book the place and it is already turn-away-customers - full! Their web site said this is the spot were the American South meets the South of France. We shall see. I do know their Appetizer list includes Stone Ground Baked Grits and Fried Green Tomatoes. Sounds promising. What about their other foods? I also want to know if their waiters are haughty. I?ll report. And are the drinks and wine good? I?ll enlighten you! We arrived in our coupe for their road side Valet Parking. So far, so good! We were dressed to the 9?s!! The facade of the place had a Federal look to it. Nice. The inside was a typical, fine dining style. On to the children?s hour! Mrs. Flanders had the Orange Thing, a tasty concoction of vodka, triple sec and OJ and I had an Italian Negorne, mix 1 part gin, 1 part sweet vermouth, Compari and a squeeze of orange fruit. And I didn?t even have to tell them how to make it. Incredible! The appetizer course was delicious for both of us. Mrs. Flanders had some yummy fried and breaded oysters and I had truly out-of-this-world foie gras. The entire meal would have been worth this! For the main selection I had the Leg of Lamb and lamb chop; very succulent melt-in-your-mouth good! Mrs. Flanders partook of the braised duck. Equally tasty! It was all washed down with a dry 1999 red French Pomerol, which indeed was worthy of the occasion! A word about their waiters: ours was originally from Norway and attended to our every need; most friendly and not at all haughty. Well, there you have it. On a scale of 0 to 100, I would rate this eatery 98, with 2 points off as pricy (as usual, Mrs. Flanders was right). I recommend!

Not quite all it is made out to be

I think it is the owner's celebrity stauts that makes this place so popular. The food is good, but for the money, there are certainly much better to be had here in town. Overall I feel that it is just a little above average. Service does have a little bit to be desired. Dessert is worth staying for.

One of B'ham's Best

Highland Bar & Grill is considered to be one of Birminghams best. It is an upscale restaurant on the Southside. The waiters are usually top notch.

one of Birmingham's finest

A group of us went one night just for cocktails and to catch up on all the ""gossip"". We had a wonderful time and the drinks were superb!
