Hard working caring staff
We stopped at the Animal Rescue League of Berks County looking fo another cat that wouold fit in with our two. The shelter is one of the best I have ever been in. The lobby is bright and clean with a small area selling animal items and a great mural of The Rainbow Bridge that is used to raise funds for the shelter.
The staff working in the kennels and cat room were very friendly and must clean constantly because everything was clean with no normal kennel smell. It seemed well lite and ventilated and every kennel either had a raised bed or a blanket for the dogs. many cats were in group areas so they could be socal with ther cats and each of these areas had access to an outside cat lounge area.
We adopted a great little almost one year old female who is now part of our family.
Before leaving we took a walk araound the outside of the shelter and noted a walking trail that went into the woods, a large barn and barnyard and well maintained and manacured grounds. We also learned that they are the only shelter in the county that takes in and picks up stays and handles between 11,000 and 12, 000 animals every year. I can't undertand how they can do that with no help from the other shelter in Reading.
