The Rex is one of the most well known restaurants in Billings. Famous for its steaks, The Rex also offers delicious fresh seafood. Our favorites are the garlic sauteed mushrooms and oysters on the half-shell. Seafood such as halibut, salmon or sea bass grilled on cedar slabs and glazed in citrus or berry, the iceberg salad wedge with blue cheese house dressing, creme brulee and cheesecake with hot coffee. The bar is always loud and bustling and the lounge off the restaurant often has a musician and fireplace going. Reservations are recommended. In the summer the patio has a gas fireplace and is a fun place to meet friends for a drink or glass of wine.
After wrapping up our convention we wanted to enjoy the evening and spend time with friends. The Rex was our landing spot. We enjoyed a few hours of cocktails, a little bit of food and the fire pit on the patio. Since this was February, it was as one friend put it, "upscale" camping, minus the camp chairs and wood smell. The bar staff were friendly and fun. When we wanted to step outside we stood around and laughed and talked and headed back in for more. A great spot! This summer should be even better! Final note, for the history buffs, yes, Alfred would have loved to be in on our gathering!
I usually have a good experience here with their service and food. They also have a large selection of gluten free items and the servers are actually aware of the gluten free menu and informed about it. I would have to agree that they are a little over priced with the food. I have just had one bad experience of ordering my steak med and getting a rare steak. I would just say to make sure they cook the steaks how they are ordered or explain to the customers what their levels of cooked meat look like.
