We stopped at the little cafe attached to the Springs Resort, in order to get some breakfast. The man who served us was cheeky, fun and very friendly! We had a nice breakfast (they were accommodating with some of my fussy requests). Lovely views and free parking. Great place for a quick food stop, with some lovely landscaping and curious art in the gardens.

Great lunch stop, Betty is an amazing waitress. She could use help though, she had the whole restaurant and outdoor deck to serve. She kept her cheerful attitude, sad she didn't have help as some people left.

Big sur was packed because of spring break. I was heading south from Carmel and there seemed to be more people and cars in Big Sur than I had ever seen. So I continued on and came across this little place. There are cabins but I stayed in one of the rooms above the shop. very nice room, no TV but great views of the ocean, great big bathtub, a really sweet spot. Staff of the shop and hotel were very nice if a bit slow with service. Oh, and the wi-fi was very slow too. There is a gas station on site and a restaurant, I was going to have supper there but waited so long to be offed a drink or food I left, bought a sandwich and a couple of beers at the store and was very happy. I recommend.

We stopped here late driving north on the coast. No cell service to check reviews, but we took a chance and were pleasantly surprised. We stayed in a fully remodeled cabin called the garden house. Cabin was very clean, plush and comfortable and the expansive views from our bed of the ocean were spectacular!! We ate dinner at the whale watchers cafe and the staff was extremely friendly and food great also! Cost for the room and cafe were a little on the high side but well worth it!!!

We stopped here on our way south along Hwy 1. The room is neat, tidy and clean. The cafe next door sells great food. Still expensive but we were pleased to get a room when otherwise we would have had another 1.5- 2 hrs on the road.

This place is 'da bomb. Honest. I have been coming here for years. It's not a 4 or 5 star resort, so don't expect that here. Those places are 50 Miles north, and there you will pay for it!
This place has beautiful views from either the cabins, or the rooms above the store. Cabins are the better way to go because they are more removed from the highway, meaning less road noise. They are rustic.
Now, Big Sur is not cheap. No part of it has discounted prices like you might find in remote Nevada or some place. It's just the reality of this coastal existence. But, this little resort offers tv-free rooms, nice kitchenette facilities, large comfy beds, and unbelievable peace and tranquility built right in to your views.

If you drive up the beautiful Pacific Coast Highway, you may eventually decide you want something to eat.
There's a dearth of the familiar American chains, so it's pot luck where you stop.
We chose the whale watchers cafe at Gorda more because we didn't want to go any further without refreshment, than anything else.
It's a busy site with the gas station as well. It's situated at a spot where there's a great view over the sea.!
We were quickly seated and served in a reasonable time. The waitress told me that they didn't do standard decaff coffee, but she could make decaff expresso with more water in it, if that would be OK for me?
I do like someone who is prepared to think outside of the box to help a guest - and the coffee was great - as was the steak sandwich and the Turkey club sandwich we had.
A refill for the coffee was "no trouble" either.
So, if I'm ever on this beautiful road again and in need of simple refreshment, this is the place I'll be looking out for.

In the July the wife and I traveled to Gorda on Motorcycle from Chicago. It was getting late, as we had come from Monterey in the A.M. and decided to stop for the night in Gorda Springs. Jennie the manager was the greatest and gave us a 2 day discounted rate on the Garden Cottage, that we extended to 8 days. We met and scocialize with many of the people working there and received tips on where to take daytrips in the area. Once 2 of the male workers took us to the beach on thier day off to search for Pacific Jade (found quite a bit and still look at it to this day). Went on a hike in the hills west of the site and met 4 semi-wild horses that allowed me to pet them. All in all a magical experience, a little rough around the edges but a great adventure. Ate at the Whale Watcher Cafe a little pricey but large portions. The wife an I ordered 1 Omelet and split it. Thanks Jennie and staff for the experience of a lifetime.

Made several stops before we got to stay at the Rock House. Nice Oasis, ocean views lots of places to enjoy out doors. This place is far from metropolitan city. So things cost more. So people that complain about that. Get a grip.
