I came here with 6 of my girlfriends for Sunday brunch, and damn was the parking annoying! That, and the fact that the kitchen didn't get my order quite right (wrong cheese on my omelet) are the two reasons why this place didn't deserve 5 stars. The parking right outside this location is only 30 min spots, so we had to park down the block. But eh, it's LA, what can you do? The ambiance was very rustic and cute for such a small place, and I liked the decor a lot. There are mostly small tables for 2-4 people, but they also had a large communal table in the center, which was perfect for my group. A couple was just finishing their breakfast when we walked in, and when I told the manager we were a group of 7, they cleaned off the table and set everything up right away. I had a wild mushroom omelet that had a delicious pesto sauce on top, and it came with a small side salad and 2 slices of their freshly baked bread. It was a bit on the pricy side, but I was very full at the end. One of my girlfriends ordered their Belgium waffle, but it was so TINY! Don't order the Belgium if you're actually hungry! By the looks of their pastries and breads, it seems like that's the reason most people come here. I'd like to come back sometime and try a chocolate croissant!

I'm new to this place - I've driven by dozens of times without stopping in. I'm extremely glad that I did stop this last weekend. After a horrible couple of hours stranded in traffic on the freeway, my hubby and I just needed something good to happen after a fruitless day of furniture shopping. When we entered, I was a little surprised at the limited selection. 'That's it?' I thought. Well, yes. But I don't necessarily think it's a negative. We got a small selection of treats, and I have to say that they were excellent. The salted caramel brownie shots were out of sight! Heaven in a (very) small package. So, yes, it's a little expensive. But I keep thinking about those brownie shots. A box of those things would make an awesome gift ... but I'm more likely to eat 'em myself. I may be a little generous in my review, given that I've only tried three items, but what I tried was *very* memorable - in a good way.
These are the best tamales! Moist, delicious. I am 52 years old, and I can remember when we were kids my mom telling my dad, " only get the tamales from La Mascota"! My mom is a great cook; she always would tell us she knows how to make tamales from scratch. But when we would ask her to make some, she would say, "we'll just buy them from La Mascota". They are that good. When our relatives come from Mexico, they feast on tamales from La Moscota. Be warned; during the Holidays get there early. I get there at 5:30 AM and have to wait in line. Get there after 4 PM and you may find that they have sold out.
