Our mom moved into Abbe Hall a...

Our mom moved into Abbe Hall almost two years ago from another assisted living center that had closed their doors. She today calls this her home. Yes there are many different types of people living there for many different reasons. If not for Abbe Hall taking in these patients they would probably have no where to go but a long term nursing home. Our mom is always clean, fed and taken care of. Abbe Hall has always returned our calls and have worked with us regarding any concerns we may had.

All of the staff is wonderful to our mom. We visit at different times of the day and or weekends and have never seen her mistreated. They are actually very patient with the residents and try to make them all feel special in some way.

Our mom has been back and fourth to the hospital for various reasons and Abbe Hall has always taken care of her when she returned and helped to assure she would continue to strive.

We would recommend Abbe Hall for their family members.

I have been @ ABBE for a year ...

I have been @ ABBE for a year and proud to be the Administrator. Presently our unique community ages range from 45 to 94 yrs old. We are "goal oriented" with focus of a "quality of life" that is "individually" planned with active participation from our residents, family and support systems. A true team approach!!

I assure you the allegations I read in comments are taken VERY seriously in healthcare-I want you to know I investigated into the history-- to find them false!! . My advise to you is, when searching for a Personal Care -go see the facility for yourself and inquire if it meets the needs your looking for. Being in healthcare my entire life I have seen and experienced many different approaches in providing services-it can be confusing and overwhelming. I'm selective who I accept into our community- as you should be in choosing one!!!!! So I personally invite you to stop by and meet with me- know your choices and understand the true meaning of "People First".

Recently, I heard about some n...

Recently, I heard about some negative comments posted online, regarding Abbe Hall. I went onsite to read them for myself. I was totally shocked, to say the least. The statements, that I read, are just the opposite of what I know and the experiences I and my family have had over the past few years.

My aunt was a resident at Abbe Hall for almost three years, until her death at age 94. During her stay at Abbe Hall, I would visit her three or four times each week. I would spend the whole morning with her or I would come in at noon and stay the afternoon. Most weekends, my husband and I would come in together and spend time with her. My point in telling you this, is to let you know, that I was there often and at various times.

My aunt was treated with kindness and love by all the staff. Attention was always paid to her needs. She was always clean and well groomed. Her clothes were always freshly laundered and hung and folded neatly in her wardrobe.

This aunt was very special to me, and believe me if anything was ever done, to the contrary of what I am writing, this letter in defense of Abbe Hall would not be happening.

On days when I was there at lunchtime, I would go to the dining hall with her. The dining room was always clean and cheerful and I thought the meals were excellant, well balanced, nutritious and appetizing.

During the time of my aunts' stay at Abbe Hall, I helped clebrate her birthdays and those of other residents as they came up. Everyone was treated to a cake, cards, singing and celebrating by staff and fellow residents. Holidays were also always made special. They decorate beutifully for every holiday and have the residents participate. Holiday meals are like what we serve to our own families at home.

So yes, to me and other family members, Abbe Hall was a home away from home for our dear loved one. We always had the peace of knowing she was well taken care of and more importanly, she was happy.

Because of the family like atmosphere at Abbe Hall, I decided to give back after my aunts' passing. I do a reading club once a week as a volunteer.

In closing, I would say to anyone who is looking for a care facility for their loved one, make an appointment to visit Abbe Hall. See for yourself what they have to offer and make your decision on what you see and the information you are given.

A place to call Home.

I have had nothing less than total cooperation from the administrator and the staff concerning my fathers care, Yes it's not the perfect environment because it is not his home, however it is the next best thing! When my father could no longer care for himself and needed assistance with everyday living needs, we decided to place him in an --Assisted-- Living Facility, There he was met with the utmost respect and care one could expect. I have found the staff have often times gone to extremes to meet some of his needs and wants. He has been there for three years and now calls Abbe Hall his home. If by chance one day he would become gravely ill , or need total care, I would then have to consider a Nursing Home . Thank you for all you do!

No Stars for Abbe Hall

Soon after putting our family member in Abbe Hall, he became in need of fully skilled care. The owner, who denied she owned the place, told us to get him out and refused to help us find a fully skilled care facility. They left him lay in his own feces and complained to us that he stinks. Many times we walked in and had to ask them to care for him or the laundry or the cleanliness of his room. They sent him to the hospital on more than one occasion for bed sores. The hospital filed a complaint against Abbe Hall for neglect. Hospice helped us find a new facility. To the owner of Abbe Hall: what comes around goes around. I hope you never need to depend on someone to take care of you.

Abusive home, should be shut down

This rating of 1 star is 1 too many. Verbal, mental, and physical abuse to my loved one. Hospital would not return my loved one to this residence because of physical abuse and multiple trauma to head and torso. Reported and filed with PCH Abuse in Scranton with photos. Family is heartbroken. No one deserves this. What is America coming to?

Do not send your elderly loved ones here.

This facility mixes mentally ill with elderly. All of our family members personal items including clothing, belts, food, cigarettes (yes it's a smoking institution), ect. went missing. When you have concerns, Marianne, the administrater, doesn't return your phone calls. I went in yesterday, and cleaned the room myself. Dirty laundry lays in the basket on the chair, the floor is dirty, and the dust is thick. I asked for a light bulb for the lamp because there wasn't one in it, only to find the electrical outlet cover was off the outlet, and the outlet didn't work anyway. The room walls are white, and the floor is generic white tile.

It looks more like a mental institution then a PCH. Our loved one has a huge open wound on his backside from poor care. Lehigh Valley Hospitals case worker filed a complaint with the state due to poor hygeine. My mother returns after two days to find an elderly man who looks homeless (unshaven, long nails, odor, ect). Please do not send your elderly loved ones here.

Do not send your elderly loved ones here

This facility mixes mentally ill with elderly. Our loved ones personal belongings all went missing. When we contacted Marianne, the administrater, with concerns, she did not return our phone calls. When we did finally speak with her, she wouldn't even admit to owning the facility. Our family member was unkempt, and the room was nothing less then dirty. I cleaned it myself this weekend. Laundry piles up in the basket on the chair, the dust is thick, the floor is dirty, and there was no light bulb in the lamp. That didn't matter though, because the electrical outlet had no cover, and didn't work anyway. Our family member also has a horrific bed sore, and the facility was reported to the state by LV hospital. Save yourself some sleepless nights, and don't send your loved ones here.
