We were new in town and were looking for Italian food that was moderately priced and was nearby to our hotel. We asked our concierge for a recommendtion and was told this restaurant would meet our expectations. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful with suggestions. He also had a good knowledge of the ingredients of many dishes. Our service was prompt without being pushy. The food was served very hot, spiced and cooked as it should have been. Portions were ample and not over-sized. We did not have any dessert but our neighbors at the next table had a piece of luscious looking cake. I would give this neighborhood eatery a fair chance and sit back and enjoy some good eating.
The Pines is my favorite Italian restaurant in the DC area. I've been going here for lunch and dinner since 1972, and it's kept its neighborhood feel. The welcome you get as a longtime patron is especially nice. The seafood's good, the pizza outstanding, and the eggplant parmigiana is the best anywhere. The pizza and parmigianas are made with whole tomatoes, not tomato sauce. And the house wine pairs well with the Southern Italian dishes.
Comfortable seating, delightful atmosphere with nice ambiance. Very helpful staff meeting special needs of food restrictions but best of all the food is terrific.Lovely aromas very tasteful with nice rich flavor. We have been there several times and all have been exceptional. It is a surprise for a restaurant to be this good and be in a Hotel. We always look forward to going.
