Jefferson Credit Union is a credit union based in Birmingham, Alabama. Anyone in the entire Birmingham metro area can become a member for life with an initial deposit of $5. Our members have access to home mortgages, auto loans, checking accounts, savings accounts, CD's, and many other services that a bank would offer. We have 3 locations--the downtown Birmingham county courthouse is our main office, and we have branches in Hueytown and Fultondale, with more branches on the way soon! We are a not-for-profit institution, meaning all the profits that we make are required to be given back to our members in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings rates, etc. This is different from a bank because banks' profits all go to their shareholders. Another advantage of membership is that you can conduct basic transactions at any of thousands of credit union "service center" locations around the world.
