I love this restaurant. It is our favorite. Excellent Italian food on a frequently changing menu. An excellent wine list. Wonderful, upscale atmosphere. We've nearly always found the service to be excellent, although about 10% of the time, when it is really busy, the service is sometimes a little spotty. And the owner is very nice. He recognizes us as regular patrons and always goes out of his way to make us feel special.

While I must admit that Vivace has great, authentic food, I must give it an average rating due to the horrible service I have received over and over again (the worst I have ever received). Making a reservation at this restaurant is pointless, due to the fact that the manager purposely overbooks every night. Therefore, even when making a reservation, you must wait on an average of 45 minutes to an hour to get seated. Once seated, it is so overcrowded that the waiter barely has time to take your order and cant hear you over the noise. So fed up, I wrote a letter of complaint to the manager, which was completely ignored. The food isn't good enough to outweigh the terrible service, which I believe is due to an unethical and greedy manager who only cares about customer traffic. I will never go back again.

I have to admit that Vivace is my favorite place to dine in the Pennisula. The ambience and atmosphere are perfect for a nice dinner with close friends or a romantic rendevous. The food is impeccable, and top notch. However, I recommend making reservations and arriving early or on-time. The place is always packed...and there is no argument the food and ambience are the biggest reasons why. The service is spotty though, there are some nights I've gone where the service is incredible, and other nights it will take forever to flag down a waiter. Hopefully they resolve this issue soon, because I'm sure they could seat their reservations more promptly if the customers who are eating are serviced properly.

My wife and I made a reservation, arrived early, checked in and waited at the bar. Fifteen minutes after our reservation time, I asked how much longer it would be before we would get seated and were told ""a few more minutes."" After a few more of these back-and-forths, during which we ALWAYS had to ask (even though we were literally 5 feet from the reception desk), I asked to speak with the manager...who seated us shortly thereafter. By the time we were seated, it was nearly 1.5 hours after our reservation time! Why bother giving out a reservation time?!? Never again.

The food was good, the pasta cooked perfectly. We were seated promptly because we had made an early OpenTable reservation, but from there the service rapdily declined. Took several minutes to get bread and water, then several more -- probably 15 minutes before a waiter acknowledged us. We had to ask twice for a wine menu, and extra plates were never removed from the table. Once we were handed our plates, we never saw the waiter again til she wanted us to pay her.

We had a reservation for 7pm on a Wednesday night for a party of 12 and when we walked in, the place was pretty busy already. A cocktail party was going on in the private dining room from 4-7pm. Unfortunately, the people from the cocktail didn't start to trickle out till 8pm. By the time we were seated with people still hanging out from the cocktail party it was 8:15pm. 1 hour 15 mins past our reservation. Food was decent but yes, a little pricey for what you get. The waiter did not tell us of any specials or any recommendations was merely there to take your drink and food orders.

Everything was ok; nothing was spectacular. The ahi tuna appetizer was nice, as was the creme brulee. The pan seared halibut with white beans and basil ragout was bland and uninspired. All in all... nice, but nothing to jump up and write home about.
