This is the best buffet in Bellingham. Unfortunately, that's not saying much, because all of the other buffets are pretty bad. It's better than Wonderful Buffet and Lychee Buffet (just recently closed), and way better than the Old Country Buffet. So, it gets an 'I like it' vote from me almost by default. Don't expect great food, but it does have some decent stuff and we didn't taste anything that was really terrible. The cuisine is a mixture of Japanese and Chinese. There is an extensive offering of sushi, all of which was pretty good (I ate a lot of it). You'll also find a little sashimi. Other Japanese offerings include seaweed, teriyaki chicken, Japanese style octopus and squid and a hibachi bar with a good variety of proteins and vegetables. Most of the premade hot dishes were Chinese. You'll find the usual list of suspects: General Tso's chicken, Mongolian beef, pot stickers, fried rice, etc. Of the ones we tried, none were outstanding but none were terrible either. The soups, hot and sour, egg drop and wonton, were all quite good. They also have a pretty good salad bar. Overall it's relatively cheap eats and not a bad place to try.
We had passed by the Hilltop many times and noticed the parking lot always had a lot of cars. Recently, we stopped for breakfast and were very impressed. Although the restaurant was very busy, we were seated quickly. My husband had corned beef hash and I had the featured eggs benedict - delicious! The service was prompt and friendly. Our table had a view of Mt. Baker - a spectacular large photo wall mural done by a local photographer. We looked at the dinner menu and decided to come back a few days later. The return visit was as good as the first. My husband had the "certified angus" top sirloin with something they call rodeo rings (red onion rings with light breading, made to order) and I had the wild salmon with whiskey glaze. Both meals were exceptional and the prices were moderate. We've heard about the Hilltop from many other people and would give our hearty recommendation!
The best Chinese food in town!!! It's such a quaint Ma & Pa restaurant with the freshest ingredients & best service. The owners (Sam & Jessica Chang) will be your host/hostess, they'll take your order, cook it, & serve it in the quickest friendliest manner. My girlfriend & I make it a weekly ritual to eat here ATLEAST once a week! With their tasty lunch specials priced at an affordable $5.95, you'll never leave hungry, or without a smile from ear to ear. The next time you return (wich you will after your 1st experience!), Sam & Jessica will remember your names & orders making you feel like a true friend & customer! EAT HERE!
