The Lawrence County Sheriff Department is a full-service, community-oriented law enforcement agency that preserves peace and safety and safeguards citizens rights. It undertakes various criminal cases and works with other state, local and federal agencies to ensure public safety and exchange of information between law enforcement officers and the public. The Lawrence County Sheriff Department supports Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), which is an international education program that seeks to prevent the usage of illegal drugs, gang activities and violent behavior. The department maintains a K-9 team that handles issues related to drug intervention, tracking, and searches for people, buildings and evidence. The Lawrence County Sheriff Department, located in Bedford, Ind., also has an emergency response team.
