FIRST TIME HERE, DIDNT EXPECT MUCH, I THOUGHT WHAT I HAD ORDER, THE BEEF CHIMICHANGA WAS VERY GOOD.

I agree with Madkencar's review. I went to the location on Dowlen to get a togo order for myself for lunch because I LOVE Mexican food, and wanted to try this place. I met the Owner and he was so nice, polite, and inviting I was impressed. So the next week or so I talked my husband into going sit and have dinner there. We got into the building around 5pm. We stood at the greeter station for at least 4-6 minutes while the staff just looked over us. The person at the bar asked "standing from the bar" if we had been helped. I signaled "no" and he came to the greeter station to seat us, then some waitress ran to help us. We were seated, she took our drink order, took our food order, and disappeared. We were w/o refills for at least most of our meal, and the food was not good. I never, ever leave an establishment w/o leaving a tip, but this service was soooo bad, we paid our bill and walked out. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!

I have been eating at Monterey House for 25 years. The food has always been consistantly delicious, and the wait staff always seems happy to be at work. The restaurant is always packed at lunch, but it never takes longer than 10 or 15 minutes to get the food. I believe this is the oldest restaurant in Beaumont, and it is defanantly one of my favorites.

My family went to Monterey House to celebrate the birth of my great niece last night. Many, many years ago I worked at the one on Calder. It's been gone for a long time. When we walked in all full of laughter and joy it was stiffled right away by the manager. She was so rude some wanted to leave right then and there.I use to love to eat there so I convienced them to stay and eat. I ordered fajatas for two to share with my niece and the chicken was so dry and burnt we could not eat it. The beef was so tuff it pulled my false teeth loose. We literally left it all on the plate. One plate had no Ranchcero sauce on it. After seeing and hearing how rude the manager was there was no way we were sending it back. We all but figured if the cooks had to work with her they couldn't have too good of an attitude about returned food. The waitress came to our table one time after our meal was served and refilled one basket of chips and drinks. Of course who can really blame the staff when your manager is who you are to look up to and learn the tricks of the trade from is the rudest staff person I have ever met. If you are having a bad night stay out of the public ey if you can't contain yourself. I think the manager must have owned part of the business because there is no way she would still be employed otherwise. A smile when we walked in and a nice greeting would have went along way. You would have turned and walked out but I was stupid and stayed.
