Immunizations
The vast majority of our injections are no more painful than a vaccination. Patients are often very surprised at the conclusion of an injection session and say things like “It’s over? I thought you were just getting started!” There are rare circumstances where a particular injection may cause significant discomfort or even pain, but we will discuss that in detail with you before proceeding. There are usually ways to avoid causing pain in these circumstances.

Labor and Delivery
Dr. Tivnan lives in Bangor with his wife Casey who is a labor & delivery nurse at EMMC and his dog Fozzie who is an avid hiker. His interests include fishing and going to concerts and comedy shows.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Persistent nerve pain is another common problem. Examples include carpal tunnel syndrome, entrapment of nerves such as ulnar, ilioinguinal, lateral femoral cutaneous and posterior tibial. These problems in order could produce pain, tingling or weakness of the hands, groin, thigh or foot.

Ultrasound
At Northeast Pain Management, common procedures include epidural steroid injections, joint injections of shoulder and knee, and ultrasound guided injections to muscles, tendons and nerves. We provide expert EMG performance and analysis.
X-Rays
Computed Tomography
Joint pain can also be a problem for a patient. X-rays, CT scans and MRIs are the best modalities for diagnosing changes in joints. Ultrasound, however, can be helpful for guiding a needle into a joint and allowing a precise location of medicine within a specific joint.

I’ve been having pain for about a year and half... and have tried physical therapy, massages, acupuncture, medication, and all sorts of different things and it was really not solving the problem... 6 weeks ago I had a PRP injection in my tendon sheath... it has just done a tremendous job of making it so I can move around, I do not have the pain that I had before. It feels like it has healed versus band-aided the pain...For me it has really increased my ability to move around and lowered my pain level tremendously.
Tennis Elbow
Injuries to ligaments, tendons and muscles are common pain problems. Common examples include tennis elbow, golfers elbow, rotator cuff pain, biceps tendonitis, abdominal muscle strain and hip-related muscle pain. Ultrasound is extremely helpful to identify the problematic painful area and guide treatment often confirming the diagnosis and allowing a rational treatment plan.
