I really like this place. I have only been there for brunch and a couple times for lunch during the week. When I've gone the help has been super nice to me. And i LOVE their omelettes, burgers, and meatloaf. Seriously delish! \r You never get tired of the decor. They should make an Eye Spy book or something like it!

Our 1:50 am is their 2 am. Last call at a diner?

So twice I have been to Paper Moon, following last call, in the final quarter hour before 2 am. Twice, I have been there with minutes to spare before 2 am. And twice I have been told, that I was too late, to be served. They used to be open 24 hours. Now 2 am. The hostess was rude shoving me out the door even though I was there at 1:58. You used to be a fun place to go to or take newbies and out of towners to. Surly hostesses are gonna keep me away from this mediocre, overpriced late night grub. I ended up buying some pancakes and making my own omelette at home. Here's a newsflash. You don't keep customers with craptastic front of house service like that.

Hmm.. Try Again
I went to Papermoon with my friend in the winter time and it was a horrible experience. They had the customers wait in the cold, with a space heater in the corner. It was really cold that night, with places to sit at the counter, which I think they should have allowed the customers to sit due to the weather. When we were finally seated, we had to wait about 20 minutes for the waitress to finally give us our menus. The food is overpriced, I could have found a better breakfast platter on Greenmount Avenue. The only good thing was the whimsical dining room that had you revisit your childhood by looking at the Pez dispensers.. Other than that, I know I will not be eating there again.

I know you're hungry, but keep driving

The omelets were tasty, and more than I could finish. But I could not get over thinking ""I could EASILY make this at home for 1/10th of the price!"" as I ate . . . and I could have had it in more comfort. The chairs are not comfortable, and even the decor is disturbing. I brought my little brother and sister with me. They couldn't even use the bathroom because of the creepy painted mannequin in the bathroom.

After eating in several Fry-Fests, we were looking for a kid-friendly restaurant with a diverse menu. Paper Moon has vegetarian offerings and great kid food. The atmosphere is terrific, you won't get tired of checking out the walls & ceiling, be sure to visit the restrooms! The service was great, very accomodating.

The Web site, papermoondiner24 dot com, while possibly down for a day or two a while ago, is currently up and running. The diner has definitely not gone out of business, although the hours have changed. Last seating is now 12 a.m. on Sunday-Thursday, and 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

A Baltimore Staple Worth Trying... Once

I work/have lived in Baltimore for years and was asked by an out-of-towner where he should visit while in town. Paper Moon. To me, it is a representative microcosm on the city - shocking, a little trashy, a little scary (depending on what time of nite you show up), filled with ornery characters, both working behind and seated at the counter. Everyone is just trying to make a buck.\r \r The food is what it says it is - an attempt at healthy food... which would explain why some of the dishes seem overpriced.\r \r As for the atmosphere, the designer is immensely talented, although this place is growing a bit stagnant.\r \r Bottom line: Great place to visit, not a great place to frequent.

way over priced

I've been eating at paper moon for the past ten years and have continued to go regularly despite the ever increasing prices. I should have listened to my many friends who have already sworn off of the expensive, slow, paper moon, and who told me I was crazy to keep going there. But, I like the food so I go... not any more, why? Well, I ordered carry out yesterday and..... 8 dollars for a grilled cheese sandwich!!!!!!! Thats two pieces of bread and two slices of cheese and 9 french fries (I was so mad I counted)!!!!

Either practices descrimination or simply gives THE WORST service in Baltimore.

I think, for the first time in my life, I've been discriminated against.\r \r We (party of 7) walked into Paper Moon cafe at 2am. We were seated at approximately 2:30am. In this particular dining room, we were the second table to be seated. The waitress took our order almost immediately.\r \r In the meantime, 4 other parties were seated after us and had already received their food, one of them being a party of 7 black people - who not only had their food, but finished eating. The first party seated had already left, and their table bussed. The remaining tables seated after us were 2-tops.\r \r By 3:15am, I finally complained and asked to see the manager. In the meantime, the waitress FINALLY passed by our table a second time in 45 minutes and said she would begin bringing out the food. When the manager (an african america) came by the table, he said that when the kitchen receives large checks, they split up the order by preparing half now, and the other half later.\r \r After previously working in the restaurant industry (Opa, Fells Point, MD.), I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that this was a lie. No respectable restaurant would make their customers ""eat in shift"" or prepare some food and have it sit ... getting cold while waiting for the other parts of the order to be made. I continued to ask the manager why the other table of 7 - the african american table, not only got their food, but received it all together and in a timely manner while our table of 7 white people were still waiting (now at 3:30am) 1 hour. And, why our waitress only passed by our table 2 times.\r \r His reply was, ""you can either accept my explanation or you can leave."" We abruptly left at 3:30 without any food. \r \r That kind of reply in iteself is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE in any customer service industry. Either we were discriminated against because we are white, or becuase we are gay.... or this place just simply has HORRIBLE service.

i will say this, the place is interesting to look at. sometimes i find myself going there because everything else in baltimore seems to close way too early for my tastes...despite my bad experiences i keep returning.\r the food has only made me sick about 3 times, but inexplicably. i don't know how it's possible to ruin a mushroom sandwich or a grilled cheese, i can only imagine it must have been the nasty grill. the service is always a mess. they make no apologies for the variety of mistakes each one of your ten servers makes. one day i spent two hours in the place and all i had was a bagel, no loitering. best described as a well decorated money and time-sucking vortex, paper moon is still a part of my dining lexicon but i can't say why.

Unique atmosphere and pretty good food

Paper Moon is a landmark of sorts: a 24-hour diner with a large, eclectic menu and a lurid, eclectic atmosphere. It's popular among late-night diners making their way home from the bars, and late-morning diners shaking off their hangovers. The food is mostly standard diner fare - breakfast, sandwiches, salads, a few homestyle entrees - with what you might call a California twist, and a respectable selection of vegetarian items. Every surface in the place is covered with weird, arty junk sculpture - antique fans and radios, vintage dolls, and all kinds of other garage-sale scores - jutting out at improbable angles. The menus are adorned with handmade collages of old pulp novel artwork, Mormon Tabernacle Choir album covers, and other kitschy ephemera. It's sort of like being in your grandmother's attic on acid. The aesthetic even spills out to the building's exterior, which is painted in vibrant, clashing colors and adorned with haphazardly placed mannequins (and a toilet). If you're interested in a sublime culinary experience, Paper Moon probably isn't what you're looking for, but if you want a supremely funky place to get some decent pancakes after a beer-soaked evening at the Ottobar, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better place.

Worst Anything in town

Ok,when this place first opened it was good. WAS..... This place now STINKS. The food is not good, the staff is the worst, the people at the DMV are more friendly. They have no CLUE what they are doing. I waited 25 minutes for water............lets not even talk about how long the food took,the it was cold. And it is so over priced. If you are hungry at 3am you have a better chane with the 7-11 pizza acrossed the street. Just don't go it is a waste of you time,money and taste. Oh and I live just a few blocks away.

Dumb and dumber

Decorated sinks and urinals notwithstanding, this dump is about as interesting as beige wallpaper. The food is atrocious and over priced, the staff witless and without charm. If someone you know likes this landfill, then you have absolute proof that they are insane.

CHEAP EATS!!!

When I was in my 20's(a while ago) the Papermoon was a great cheap place to eat. But in the past year the prices are out of hand and the service is non existant. The food is hit or miss. I only take my out town friends there for a coffee and pie at the counter because the decor is pretty wild.

They used to sell beer and ""whine"" but I guess not anymore. Interesting staff. You do not get just one server. Staff can be a little aloof. Food is good but I do not agree that it is cheap. Lots of vegetarian. Gets a bit wild at times after the bars close.

the atmosphere is fun, but the service is lacking. the staff is often rude and forgetful, and you will often wait a long time before your food is served, especially during late night and weekend breakfast hours. food is generally good, and restaurant always draws a crowd, esp. after 2am. convenient, with a different atmosphere. lots of vegetarian options.

Travelling to Baltimore from Atlanta Iwanted to find an original, hometown place to eat- and CitySearch found it for me! Papermoon Diner is the coolest place I've been to in a long time. The atmosphere is amazing! I found myself snapping pictures of old Transformers, mannequins decorated with green plastic army men, flowers planted in old sinks, original art and much, much more! And the food was excellent, to boot! (I would suggest one of their many quesadillas) Definitely a place I would go back to.
