I wouldn't recommend anyone go near this establishment. They have very poorly placed tow signs and will tow you and fine you $150 in a heartbeat.

This happened to my friend and I today, when we accidentally parked in one of The Pit's spots so that we could visit Pinthouse Pizza next door.

When I called to speak with the owner afterward, I spoke with Roma Duff who was hostile and argumentative. My suspicion is that Roma and Jeff Duff, the owners of The Pit, get a piece of the profit from the tow service they are employing. That's the only way it makes sense for them to employ the service rather than put up better signs.

Roma told me that they have five people towed from those spots every day. Make sure you aren't one of the five. Stay far away from The Pit Barbeque and their completely shady practices.

My boyfriend and I stopped by ...

My boyfriend and I stopped by this place on a whim one night, and we were really glad we did! It's pretty small so you might miss it from the road, but you can't miss the drool-inducing smell of brisket smoking.

The restaurant is family owned and operated. The grandma, a spunky and sweet woman, took our orders and made some recommendations while her grandsons worked the cash register and sliced our meat. The place just oozes family warmness and hospitality.

The brisket was nice and moist with plenty of self-serve sauce, onions and pickles. We also got an order of ribs. SO good! I mean, I'm a sucker for ribs, but they all had plenty of meat on them and were seasoned just enough to enhance the delicious flavors already present but not mask any of them. I really appreciated that even though we came in pretty close to closing time all of the meat was hot off the smoker.

All of the side dishes came in portions bigger than I could eat (yay leftovers!) and the banana pudding was a perfect ending note to the meal. Oh, and endless Dr Pepper from the fountain was a definite plus.

I wish there had been a couple more options on the menu and that it was open later, but overall I really liked The Pit. Very reasonable prices, sweet family hospitality and freshly made food were well worth the visit!

Awesome BBQ, reminds me of home!

I love BBQ but its really hard to find a good BBQ joint these days. Now days its all fancied up and expensive. The Pit is how BBQ should be served up at the counter in a dimly lit little shack. Now by that I dont mean its a bad thing, its an AUTHENTIC thing! The meat is cooked just right and the prices are great! The chopped beef sandwhiches are the best in Texas and a great deal at 3 for 5 dollars! They remind me of home.

Great Small Barbque Joint

The Pit is a low-ceiling smoky affair. Perfect for authentic barbeque --- excellent brisket and sausage. Great sauce. Good sides ? potato salad and beans. You are offered a choice of white bread or wheat bread. Even if you are a ?granola chomper? (I am), barbeque is best with out-of-the bag white bread. The Pit is one of the few places in town (and you have to be a native Texan to get this one) that has an ice maker that produces shaved ice. It makes those soft drinks oh so perfect. Peach cobbler and banana pudding are above average.
